So my take on Elway’s comment about not having time to respond may have just been that with the draft being just a day or two away, he is elbow deep in preparation for that. At that point, they should probably be ready, but then again, ai have never been in that position, so I am certain there is a hell of a lot going on and likely takes right up until the damn draft until you are fully situated.
ReplyDeleteAnd then someone drops a bombshell in the top 5 picks or so and throws everything out the window.
He will likely address the situation after the draft, if they intend to do so. I think they should sign him to a new deal. He gave us a discount on his first new contract, so we should pay the man for what is likely to be his last big contract. He has earned it and is one of the best cover corners in the league year after year.
The more I read, the more I think we pass on QB’s yet again this year. Elway is already talking about next year’s class of QB’s. Could be smoke screen, could be true, could be false, could be all of the above. I have absolutely no idea which way we go. If we don’t draft a QB, we will need to add another free agent bum, as I don’t see Flacco playing all season after having a bum hip and playing behind a weaker line. Kevin Hogan isn’t going to cut it as our main backup. So we will have to do something at QB regardless.
ReplyDeleteWe need offensive linemen. A guard or two and a center. For this reason, I can see us trading back some in the first round to get some more picks to be able to move up from our second round spot to get the top center on the board.
We need LB’s. We lost two or three. So we need to replace them and Davis is not a suitable full time replacement.
We need a safety and another CB regardless of what the plan is with Jackson. I don’t see it being wise to rotate him between the two spots during the game or from game to game.
Glad the day is finally here though. I am ready to see what the 2019 chapter of the Denver Broncos will look like. This team was better than its record last year talent wise and improving the coaching staff should be able to add a few wins on top of last year at a minimum. A lot will hinge on QB play though. That will be the key.
Big day! Time to get this thing going.
ReplyDeleteI'm here, 6 minutes to go...
ReplyDeleteBeen following all the rumors, could be some craziness in this top 10.
ReplyDeleteBet we trade down to Skins... HA! Who knows, I wouldn't mind a trade down, we could use more picks if we have our shit together on picks.
ReplyDeleteMurray #1
ReplyDeleteRosen up for grabs...
DeleteMurray goes 1.
ReplyDeleteSo Bosa next? I wonder where Rosen is going.
ReplyDeleteBosa #2
ReplyDeleteGoing as expected so far.
DeleteAs expected Bosa, so far draft going to schedule. Jets been trying to trade out, I wonder if they do.
ReplyDeleteSo Jets didn't trade.
ReplyDeleteWilliams #3
ReplyDeleteAnother expected pick. What will the Raiders do, that is a big question? QB? And trade Carr?
ReplyDeleteRaiders pick is... Ferrell
ReplyDeleteGruden reaching a bit.
DeleteBucs up... Will they ignore their claim to stick with Winston and go Haskins?
DeleteWow...reach?
ReplyDeleteYup, did you here the crowd like the air went out.
DeleteA high character guy. Interesting.
DeleteI think TB goes White here.
Yep, basically was a 'who' moment. Pretty sure they all wanted Allen.
DeleteThink Denver takes Bush?
Delete#5 Bucs pick White
ReplyDeleteAnother expected pick. Raiders only surprise so far.
DeleteGiants going QB? Or going to get someone to help Eli?
I'm liking the way this is shaping up for us. A lot of good options still available.
Think Denver takes Bush?
DeleteI hope not, I'm not a Bush fan.
DeleteIf Haskins is there, I don't know, just 1 year starting makes me nervous. Lock I lost interest in the more vid I watched on him.
DeleteNYG #6 take Jones
ReplyDeleteSilly, lets get 2015 Peyton.
DeleteWow, Eli to Denver to retire... we are the burial grounds for QBs
DeleteEli, then Safford lol
DeleteLOL!
DeleteWell the next 3 don't need QBs so we will have the pick of Haskin and Lock.
ReplyDeleteSee my reply to you above.
DeleteOn Haskins/Lock
Delete#7 Jax takes... Allen.
ReplyDeleteThey probably didn't think he'd be there at #7
DeleteThought Jax would take a Tackle but Allen is BPA.
DeleteAgree, good pick for them... I'm feeling a trade down for Denver.
Delete#8 and the Kittens take... Hockenson
ReplyDeleteWell that eliminates 1 Denver posssibility
DeleteTJ, I like that for them.
ReplyDeleteMe too, I wanted him off the board so Denver diesn't take him
DeleteIf Ed Oliver is on the board we will take him. But the Bills may like him.
ReplyDeleteOn the clock
ReplyDeleteI agree, Buff likes Oliver a lot and he's there, so will Denver take a QB?
ReplyDeleteI wouldn’t think we would take a TE at 10.
ReplyDeleteEd Oliver going to the Bills
ReplyDeleteBummer.
Delete#9 Buffalo takes... Oliver
ReplyDeleteWe're next... all our questions answered soon... trade down.
ReplyDeleteWell we can have either of the QBs.
ReplyDeleteI reckon we should trade down. Nothing great value here now.
traded
ReplyDeleteAT #10 THE DENVER BRONCOS DECIDE ON...
ReplyDeleteTRADE TO PIT
Traded down! Nice. But 20 is a long way.
ReplyDeleteWe will take a lower ranked QB at #20 Grier or Finnley
DeleteOrrrrr - we go lower rd and take my guy Rypien
DeleteI hope we got a lot.
ReplyDeleteGuessed it!
ReplyDelete#10 Pit takes Bush
ReplyDeleteI'm glad they took him.
DeleteBroncos trade: Pick 10. Steelers trade: Pick 20, 52 and a 2020 third round pick.
ReplyDeleteLove that, another 2nd tomorrow and a third in 2020. Love it.
DeleteA 2nd and a 2020 3rd isn't much but it makes me think we go after a QB in 2020 and are stocking trade up ammo now to get our fav in 2020.
DeleteFor 10 spots a 2nd this draft and a 3rd next year is pretty good.
DeleteDon't get me wrong, we got what we could and it wasn't bad and since nobody at #10 excited us much, we did the right thing... I'm still patting my back for calling the trade down LOL!
DeleteAt this rate one or both the QBs could be available at 20. Fant may still be there too. It was a good move.
DeleteAnd still plenty of DL.
Delete#11 CIN takes Williams
ReplyDelete#12 GB takes... Gary
ReplyDeleteNice. Don't think fins go QB, they going for no 1 next year. That leaves Washington as the last one before us that could go QB.
DeleteYou may be right, I thought MIA may take a QB, but now I'm wondering
DeleteI think MIa takes Haskins, maybe Lock since the have Oz.
ReplyDeletethey not the
Delete@ #13m MIA takes... Wilkins
ReplyDeleteBPA. See if someone skips Washington for a QB but I doubt it.
DeleteGood value for Mia.. gets Lock and Haskins closer to us... naw.
Delete@ #14 ATL takes... Linstrom
ReplyDeleteSo do Washington go QB...
DeleteWill Skins take Lock? Probably
DeleteElway always trades down. Don’t pat yourself too hard haha
ReplyDeleteNobody else called it...;) and I don't think JE always trades down
DeleteIf its not a QB or Fant, my dark horse would be Dexter Lawrence.
ReplyDeleteFor us at 20.
DeleteWashington almost has to take a QB
ReplyDeleteBig question is, if Haskins or Lock is there at 20, will we take them
ReplyDeleteGuess it would have to be Lock. Haskins went to Skins
ReplyDelete#15 Skins take... Haskins
ReplyDeleteThat leaves Lock... I don't like it - too stiff.
DeleteI like that pick for Washington.
DeleteIf Lock is at 20 I can see us taking him. I don't see anyone between then and now picking him.
Oakland is the only team I could see jumping us to take Lock.
Delete# 16 CAR takes... Burns
ReplyDelete4 to go.
DeleteWith the Harris contract hassle, do we take a CB like Murphy who was rated high on many boards?
DeleteI wouldn't, I think we get Harris sorted and add a QB later.
DeleteCB lol
DeleteMaybe trade CHJ for more 2020 QB ammo?
DeleteI'd hold on to him.
DeleteGiants go WR me thinks.
ReplyDeleteMetcalf?
Delete#17 NYG take... Lawrence
ReplyDeleteDillard?
Deletefor MIN - wrong
DeleteDamn took the NT.
ReplyDelete@ #18 MIN takes... Bradbury
ReplyDeleteWe may have liked Garrett too. There is two O-tackles still available.
Deletewe are on the clock. if we trade again out of the first round I am breaking my TV
ReplyDeleteAhah it is possible.
DeleteFant, Lock or Simmons or maybe another trade down.
ReplyDeleteor Sweat.
DeleteTitans may take Lock too
ReplyDeleteTitans take Simmons
ReplyDelete# 19 TEN takes... Simmons
ReplyDeleteBroncos next, do we trade down again?
DeleteGood pick for them.
DeleteFoat or Lock, maybe Sweat.
DeleteTrade down another 5 maybe and take Lock if we really like him.
that would mean we trade with Oakland.
DeleteI meant the mid 20s, not specifically Oakland lol.
Deletelittle disturbing that the pick isnt in. Tells me we are fielding calls
ReplyDeletenow its in
Deleteand we take Fant from IA
ReplyDeleteAT #20 THE DENVER BRONCOS TAKE... TE NOAH FANT
ReplyDeleteFant. Nice pick.
DeleteNot a huge fan of TE in the first but hey we weak at TE.
So we have now drafted Huereman, Butt, Fumagali and now Fant the past four years.
ReplyDeleteI don’t like the pick.
ReplyDeleteHe is better than the other three but TE isn't a sexy pick. Hopefully this is our Kittle pick.
DeleteWelp, I guess a TE fills a need but I wouldn't have gone there. PFF has him at #43 on their big board.
ReplyDeleteThe good on him is size and athleticism, the knock on him is bad hands, lots of drops.
DeleteOthers had him 13 or top 15.
DeleteLets hope he can be this decades Shannon Sharpe
DeleteYa, fingers crossed we didn't screw the pooch on this.
Delete#21 GB picks... Savage
ReplyDelete#22 PHI takes... Dillard
ReplyDeleteGood value there, Taylor still on the board, my go to Texans next.
DeleteAll WRs, CBs, and RBs still available.
ReplyDeleteDolphins have been in talks about Rosen from the Cards
ReplyDeleteThey are probably the only spot left for him.
DeleteNew England has been rumored to be interested. But the Cards have no leverage now. They screwed themselves by waiting. They could have unloaded him and gotten something.
DeleteBig time.
Delete#23 Hou picks... Howard.
ReplyDeleteReach but they needed a tackle.
screwing the pooch would at least get us something
ReplyDelete#24 Oak picks... Jacobs.
ReplyDeleteGood pick by them.
I want McCoy next if we can get him
ReplyDeleteHas to be interior linemen next.
DeleteWe do have two 2nds so could move back into the first.
Ravens take WR Brown.
ReplyDeleteHow many of us had the Broncos taking a TE in the 1st rd?.. Ya, me neither.
ReplyDeleteI'd hope not but I can see why.
Deletei had them taking both Iowa TE’s first round
ReplyDeleteWashington move up and take Sweat at 26.
ReplyDeleteSkins having a good draft so far
ReplyDeleteDon't have a 2nd now and next year. But I like that they got a QB and Sweat. Good additions.
DeleteLock still sitting there undrafted.
ReplyDeleteI'll be mad if he goes to the Pats.
Deletewouldn’t surprise me. I was thinking they would take him.
DeleteI'd take Grier before Lock.
DeleteAbram to the Raiders.
ReplyDeleteRaiders picks don't scare me. Solid guys though.
DeleteHell maybe the Chargers take him.
ReplyDeletePossible.
DeleteChargers take Tillery DT.
ReplyDeleteOk so what does us drafting Fant do for the other TE’s? Huereman clearly is staying since we resigned him for two years. What about Butt? Is he done in Denver? Are we keeping him? Fumagali done? We aren’t going to keep four TE’s.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Fumagali is a PS candidate.
DeleteTwo more trades. Giants with Seadawgs and Falcons with Rams
ReplyDeletePats go Harry.
ReplyDeleteRound one done.
See you all tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteProbably need a new post for tomorrow too.
Round one done. IMO, our best pick was trading down. Getting Fant wasn't sexy but we didn't reach for him... we'll see how the next 2 days go before I can say we did good or bad.
ReplyDelete“Pats go Harry” sounds funny.
ReplyDeleteWe have two picks in the next 20. Should be able to get some solid guys here. Could we pick Lock with one of them?
ReplyDeleteGood thing with him falling out of round 1 is if we do draft him and he does well, we don’t have to worry about the 5th year option.
Not many teams left with QB needs. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Dolphins move up to try and take him and say the hell with Rosen. With them thinking why give up a pick or two on someone else’s garbage when we can take a guy here who many thought would go top 10?
Quick check, between us and our next pick there isn't a QB needy team so we could still get Lock if we like him. Bengals really the only team that could jump up.
ReplyDeleteAlso looks like Hill in Kanas is done.
ReplyDeleteHope you are right.
DeleteBrad, I don't understand your comment about not worrying about the 5th year option if Lock does well. You would want the 5th year option, which gives you another year before a huge second contract.
ReplyDeleteI was disappointed yesterday. Let's see what they do with the extra 2nd today before judging the trade down. There were lots of strong choices there at 10.
ReplyDeleteDigger probably had wet dreams with the trade down.
For some strange reason, I'm pretty ambivalent about yesterday's draft. There was great talent available there the would have been nice to have. We have so many holes to fill that getting an extra couple of picks fairly high in the draft is also good. Only time will tell if this works out.
