Looking at the playoff schedule. the Bronco could make a major move with a win combined with losses by some teams ahead of them - such as Balt 7-5 who has KC, Pit 7-4-1 who has Oak, Mia 6-6 who has NE and Ind 6-6 who has Hou. Looks like all except the Pit-Oak game could be losers moving us either ahead of them or tied (*Balt) or within a half game (*Pit) - (I'm not certain about tie breakers on the 2 tie possibilities).
ReplyDeleteThere is only one tie situation. I believe Pittsburgh would still be ahead of us based on winning percentage if we win and they would lose because we would have one more loss
DeleteLOL! Ya, I mentioned Pit - "or within a half game (*Pit)". I really haven't looked into ties (if some of the losers win) or if Pit after today since Pit still has some tough games upcoming (NE, NO and CIN).
Deletei could see Pittsburgh losing the first two of those
DeleteOrdinarily I would be rooting for Baltimore to beat Kansas City. But with us trying to get into the playoffs I have to re-think that a little bit and pull for Kansas City
ReplyDeleteDefinitely pull for KC, NE and HOU - Oak too but that's not probable.
Deletenever know. Pittsburgh has folded a lot lately. Never know in the NFL
DeleteBaltimore hanging tough with KC early on
ReplyDeletedamn. Miami hanging with NE and actually leading
ReplyDeleteI’ll be on an airplane for today’s game, unfortunately. By the time we land it will be over so I’ll have to read through your comments when I get home.
ReplyDeleteSo much for being able to enjoy all the games after I retired. I’ve missed more games after I retired than I did before!
lol HS. No DVR?
ReplyDeleteDenver game isn’t being shown in Dallas so nothing to DVR.
Deleteall close games on those we need to fall our way.
ReplyDeletelooks like KC is going to win after some late game heroics.
ReplyDeleteColts handling the Texans. Dolphins hanging with the Pats still.
ReplyDeleteWe get the toss, defer to SF
ReplyDeleteChiefs missed yet another FG today. Going into OT.
ReplyDeletebad snap and hold. I think the Laces were in.
SF waltzing down the field.
ReplyDeleteWe hold ST to a FG try.
ReplyDelete3-0 SF
ReplyDeleteDolphins win on a screwy ass play for a long TD by Tannehill
ReplyDeleteCase’s first pass incomplete. No surprise
ReplyDelete3&out for Denver
ReplyDeletegreat punt by wadman
ReplyDeleteThe pizza delivery guy has been doing great so far.
DeleteHouston lost as well. Damnit
ReplyDeleteTrap game for Denver? We aren't playing well early
ReplyDeleteDo we ever play well early?
DeleteOh, that's right, we don't
DeleteDoesn’t appear our defense showed up today
ReplyDeleteWe hold SF on their 2nd series
ReplyDeleteWelp, at least KC knocked off Balt!
ReplyDeleteI notice our players are slipping a lot - time to change cleats?
ReplyDeleteYAAAAAY! We get a 1st dwn
ReplyDeleteYet another drive stalled quickly
ReplyDeleteThat didn't last long, we punt
ReplyDeleteIt didn’t look great initially but it looks like Elway made the right call with dumping king and picking up Wadman
ReplyDeleteLooks like we can’t cover kittle
ReplyDeleteIf I am John Elway and I let Vance Joseph stay after this season then Joe Woods has to go
ReplyDeletewhy the hell can’t we play defense outside the red zone ?
ReplyDeleteThat sucked.
ReplyDelete6-0 SF
DeleteWe are lucky to only be down by six
DeleteYes we are - 161 yds to our 20... we do suck hard.
DeleteKee does his cow grazing imitation
ReplyDeleteKittle killing us... TD 13-0 SF
ReplyDelete179 yards for Kittle already... Woods is lost in the woods.
ReplyDeleteKee sure knows how to toss behind the line
ReplyDeleteKee is a one man Chinese fire drill
ReplyDeleteWe must be at minus yards for the half
DeleteSF marching again... this is looking like a runaway end to our season
ReplyDeleteSua penalty negates our fumble recovery... we suck
ReplyDeleteDamn Kyle Shanahan would have looked good in orange
ReplyDeleteVONSTER SACK!
ReplyDeleteWelp, we have the ball for the moment, I have a bad feeling Kee will toss a INT
ReplyDeleteLinsay being shut out
ReplyDeleteKee ALWAYS scrambles into coverage... when he isn't throwing ducks or dirt darts
ReplyDeleteBrad, are your throwing up?
ReplyDeleteHow many damn penalties are we going to have on this damn drive
ReplyDeleteWe are basically giving them points with penalties on this drive
ReplyDeleteSo it's diarrhea and not vomiting?
ReplyDeleteWe are making Mullens look like Joe Montana
ReplyDeleteI think that makes four or five penalties on this drive now three of them are offsides
ReplyDelete3rd off-sides for Von - too much caffine?
ReplyDeleteTrying to make up for everybody else not showing up
DeleteSF gonna score again
ReplyDeleteAnother penalty
ReplyDeleteAnd a touchdown now
ReplyDeleteAnd VJina looks like she's having cramps
ReplyDeleteLindsay with just 3 yds on 5 carries. Kee just 43yds, 7/15. Von pulled for penalties. Chubb invisible and SF looking like world beaters. Muskgrave sucks, Woods sucks and VJina sucks them both.
ReplyDeleteBeing down 20 to 0 at halftime against a team as bad as San Francisco is not acceptable
ReplyDelete3rd qtr not starting off any better
ReplyDeletechubb with his second sack of the game
ReplyDeleteHe passes Von on the team’s all time rookie sack record with that full sack. Only 3 away from breaking the all time NFL record for rookies
Delete4th and 1 and we lose 2 yards
ReplyDeleteGuess my app was wrong. Janovich got the first down. Lindsay with the TD!
ReplyDeletewent for it on 4th and 3 and got two. turnover on downs
ReplyDeleteBoth lines really struggling to win any battles. Still in it but need some big plays.
ReplyDeleteVon needs to Von.
Defense has been much better in the second half. So has the offense. Not sure why we cant make in game adjustments
DeleteStewart with the pick! Lets get a TD!
ReplyDeleteTurnovers help!
ReplyDeleteFreeman with the big run. Maybe we can start to pound the rock a bit
ReplyDeleteOk lets ride Royce.
ReplyDeleteThe oline just not winning.
ReplyDeleteGo for it again on fourth down from the 22 and dont get it. You take the FG there. Gotta get points
ReplyDeleteI like going for it. 3 points still makes it a two score game. We need touchdowns.
DeleteLets throw a pass short of the sticks...great idea. At least give yourself a chance.
ReplyDeleteVJina and Muskgrave calling a helluva game... real hell of a game...
ReplyDeleteBad game management decisions by Vance. You take the 3 there. Go for the TD next drive and try for a late game FG to tie later
ReplyDelete4th down. making them punt
ReplyDeleteThats a gift. Need to score this series.
ReplyDeletecatch by Hamilton and 15 yards tacked on
ReplyDeleteFirst and goal
ReplyDeleteSomeone upstairs has to tell Vance to challenge, big miss.
ReplyDeletenever mind. my app is going nuts. 1 and 10 from the 15
ReplyDeletefirst and goal by Lindsay
ReplyDeletenow saying 4th and 1
ReplyDeletenow back to first and goal
ReplyDeleteBig props to Sutton. Dude is running around on one leg.
ReplyDelete1st and goal from the 1
ReplyDeleteLindsay converted the 4 and 1. Now bang royce in there from the one.
ReplyDeleteWhy two passes from the 1? Run the f'ing ball.
ReplyDeletethree passes from the 1
ReplyDeleteMake that 3 passes.
ReplyDeletefour passes. finally a TD!
ReplyDelete4 passes, but that was a good play call. Don't get why we didn't just run.
ReplyDeleteNeed a D stop and we may just steal this game.
ReplyDeletehad we kicked a FG on the last posession, we would only be down 3 right now. Gotta play some good defense here with just under 4 minutes left
ReplyDeletebig third down here
ReplyDeletewaste a time out on a challenge
ReplyDeletepenalty on SF helps.
ReplyDeleteIt looked closer live, on replays def was a catch fumble.
ReplyDeleteShit, was so close to preventing that.
ReplyDeleteouch. big pass there. that could be it
ReplyDeleteOkay, we need an INT or FMBL... not gonna happen... we suck
ReplyDeleteanother third and short. gotta have a stop here. out of time outs
ReplyDelete3rd and 3, need to make a stop on this play.
ReplyDeleteWe really don't deserve to win this game. But we have a chance.
ReplyDeletehad
DeleteRun the clock to 1 sec.
ReplyDeleteThat will be it.
ReplyDeletewell this game is about over with that completion. all they have to do is hand it off three times
ReplyDeleteProbably kneel out. Need a fumbled snap. Need a miracle at this point.
DeleteDamn, get our hopes up but no win and no playoffs.
ReplyDeletewell losing today with everyone else besides baltimore winning, playoffs are a very long shot now. we needed a win today
ReplyDeletewell that sucked
ReplyDeleteLol we get one play!
ReplyDeleteWell, let's hope we lose the remaining games and hopefully at least pick up a few draft positions.
ReplyDeleteI don't think we beat the browns or chargers again with the injuries we got.
DeleteOakland we should beat.
I hope we don't beat Oakland.
DeleteNo miracle though....
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrible showing by the donkeys. We do NOT deserve another win, VJina does NOT deserve to be kept and neither does most of his coaches. Changes coming, more seasons to be lost rebuilding with a new coach. Expect to loose some of our highest paid and best players (who aren't on rookie contracts) in trades for draft picks... that will hurt. Life goes on.
ReplyDeleteThis defense should not be as bad as it is with the players we have. That falls back on coaching. First half of games and late in games we should be able to control the flow of the game with what we bring defensively.
ReplyDeleteOffensively, Case completes just over 50% of his passes. That isn’t going to cut it. Elway didn’t stand for it with Tebow, he shouldn’t now. You are an NFL QB. You are expected to be able to place the ball where your receivers can catch it.
This team has much more talent than a 6-7 team would suggest. When that happens, it is either injuries or coaching or both. Up until this past week, you couldn’t blame any losses on injuries. Still can’t today.
Can’t give up 200 yards receiving to one player in a half of football. If a guy is burning you, you move someone over to help. why does it take making adjustments at halftime to do that? Shouldn’t that be something that happens during the game?
Offensive line was consistently beat today which didn't help the offense at all. The young receivers struggled also. Sutton got hurt (I don't think he plays next week).
ReplyDeleteOur secondary has no one left is probably our biggest issue. I don't get why we can't make in game adjustments like we did at the half. But our secondary is nothing without Harris.
LOL! Oak beat Pit - the one game we thought wouldn't go for the Broncos. Ravens lost to help us but coulda, shoulda, woulda and then we dooda all over ourselves. Guys, that stinks!
ReplyDeleteWith Chubb playing like he has and Von playing like he has, is it worth it to keep players like Von and Harris jr next year under new coaches and new system or would it be wiser to trade them for draft picks to build on our talented young players? Von at $25M and CHj at $10M coming off an achilles injury next year and both are going to be 30 yrs old... IDK, I love them both but we aren't going anywhere next year with new coaches/system and probably a mid-ish draft position. With draft picks we could possibly move up for a QB and build for 2020. 2019 will be a transition year at best so the soonest we might be competitive is 2020... how effective will Von and CHj be then? Any thoughts?
Am I being too down or just realistic? IDK, I always go doom gloom after an important loss.
DeleteKeep both. We have slowly weeded out the dead weight. We are primed with young talent and they are our core vets.
DeleteWe need QB, CB and OL help to make a run at a Superbowl.
Since there is no good QBs available next year. I'd see Elway load up on D and help the offensive line. See if Case can do what he did in Minn next year. If not then maybe sell house and target one of the QBs coming out of that 2020 class.
I think I'm glad I didn't see the game. Did we look as bad as its sounds? Just looking at the box score and your comments it seems like we might have actually made some half time adjustments that worked - at least on Defense.
ReplyDeleteDid we just not have the talent with all the injured players, or do we really suck that bad?
We really suck that bad because of the injured players.
DeleteReggie McKenzie got fired by the Raiders... You listening VJ?
ReplyDeleteWell back to a losing record after week 13. Very much a WTF kind of game again. Kittle run wild in 1st half and shut down after the break. Can't figure out that adjustment before the long TD? Why did the running game get shut down? SF defense is not that good. Why do we not pound Freeman and the FB(can't think of his name right now), on 4th downs and goal line plays? It worked well the one time they did it. Good coaches stick with plays that work until they don't like Shanahan did with Kittle.
ReplyDeleteWTF did we waste a TO on that challenge for? Guys in the booth have to see overturning evedence to challenge that. It wasn't even a first down. Fucking stop them on the next play. Fuck no. Let the fricking TE roam free again. Shitty game, but again, coaching. 20-0 at halftime, inexcusable.
Well not what Shamarko Thomas did but he got waived today.
ReplyDeleteOther news, Yiadom separated his shoulder. Won't play Sat. We've really went downhill at CB. So bad that they did a scan on Harris' leg already to see hw fast it's healing. Top 3 CBs for Sat are Roby, Brock and Taylor. Oh boy!
Final thing, VJ says he wants Keenum to let it all hang out and don't worry about mistakes. In other words, more inteceptions for Keenum coming.
VJ's last stand - "Let it all hang out, Case!"
DeleteToo bad it is ALL hanging out and VJ didn't notice.
VJina did notice it hanging out and wrapped her lips around it...
DeleteI see what you did there ...
DeleteCase threw one pass over 20 yards all game. I'd be happy for him to air it out more. Take some shoots, we got nothing to lose now.
ReplyDeleteThomas got waived and we promoted another Safety off the practice squad.
How is he supposed to be able to throw the ball more than 20 yards when he only has about three seconds to get the pass off? He will get sacked, pressured, and throw interceptions. I guarantee it. I really really really want to move on from Keenum next year even if VJ stays. Get Osweiler back for all I care, I just can't stand to have Case Keenum one more year.
ReplyDeleteG, do you know if Thomas did anything stupid to be waived?
Agreed he needs more time but the problem is when he gets it he isn't letting it go. I'd take one or two ints a game if he is throwing 400+ yards a game. Instead of this no ints 150 yard games.
ReplyDeleteCase isn't a long term answer, he is a stopgap till 2020.
Don't think he did. We need corners, maybe Thomas can't play in the slot or man on but his replacement can?
Doesn't have to be until 2020. Pretty sure his guanteed portion was $20M and next year was optional. We need to can Vance and Keenum, IMO.
ReplyDeleteAgreed but there is no one better available in 2019. Unless you want Flacco or Eli.
DeleteVance has to go though.
Do you think Winston will be available?
DeleteFoles?
ReplyDeleteCarr?
ReplyDeleteBridgewater? I want him.
ReplyDeleteNot a fan of Winston, throws too many picks and beats women.
ReplyDeleteFoles has regressed again. He is a backup and no better than Case.
Carr, I'd love. But I don't think the Raiders going to trade him to us. I doubt he gets cut.
Bridgewater? I'll take, he isn't flashy but he is a good QB. Do the Saints let him walk though? Would he leave the Saints knowing he has that offense when Brees retires?
See the cap going up 10 mil next year. Another reason to hold onto Von and Harris. As the cap goes up each year their salaries have less of an impact.
So we're down to playing out the string till the season ends, again.
ReplyDeleteKind of. We could win the next two games and still be alive for playoffs, go into the Charger game with nothing but a shot up three teams coming out of the AFC West. Chargers and the Chiefs are pretty much in. Our reality is we could have easily been in the charger shoes, except for a very tough schedule in the beginning of the year, the late bye, bad luck, and terrible coaching. I think we will end up 8 and 8 maybe even squeak into the playoffs.
DeleteShot at not up.
DeleteThe reason I choose to talk about next year already is because I don't think I can take another year of this coaching staff. And then if we happen to be lucky enough to get a new coach he might be wanting someone else other than Keenum.
ReplyDeleteI'd keep some of them. But HC, OC and DC have to be changed up.
DeleteI see a lot of criticism of the head coach and quarterback but apparently the guy who hired both of them is beyond criticism here.
ReplyDeleteI don't want Elway fired. I love him. But changes in the front office have to be made. Kubiak has helped, but Kubiak looks for QBs like himself - Shaubb, Simien, Keenum. Ok for a backup position but i don't want a Kubiak type QB for the starter.
Not really any QB in the draft or in free agency that excites me. We are stuck with Keenum for at least another year.
I'm sure that someone will point out the obvious fact that Elway was a big part of all 3 wins. I know that, but I have been on here for years saying that his drafts have sucked and most on here always disagree. I do love the 2018 draft but we need one or two more of this type of draft to replace all the holes from the many sucky drafts before it.
I am afraid that we will be sucking KC's butt for the next few years.
Sorry for some sobering honesty.
OBF, I remember criticism over the hiring of VJ - I was one of the critics in fact... I wanted Kyle Shanahan. Same for the signing of Keenum. I stated he wasn't much of an improvement over the QBs we had or have discarded - which, BTW, weren't being paid $36M over 2 yrs. I and others said at the time that we had other HC choices but that we'd support JE's decisions.
DeleteLike you, I don't want JE fired. He's already gotten our criticism for the bad hires/signings at the time they happened... and now most are saying he needs to move on from the current bad ones. IMO, JE will get more criticism if he doesn't correct his mistakes.
Every coach, GM and player makes mistakes as well as great moves... same goes for JE. As fans, we hope the great moves outweigh the bad. In JE's case, his good draft picks and FA signings far outweigh the bad and his 78-47 record with 5 division wins, 2 conference wins, 2 SB appearances and 1 SB win in 7 seasons while in the front office has made the Broncos a top tier team again after 5 previous season with only one 9-7 winning season. So JE gets my support as long as he stays on the plus side of winning. Thing is, BOTH VJ and CK have been on the negative side of wining. Time for them to go.
In kee's case (word play), he is 26-25 in 51 starts with only 1 good season to speak of out of 7 - with 5 different teams. He may be retained for 2019 simply for a lack of anyone better being available right now. His woes could being coaching and there's only one way to find that out - or it may be (my choice) that he simply lacks the arm, the vision and the decision making skills to be a top notch QB. He'd be fine for a backup, but not at the $$$ he's getting. In any event, I'm nearly positive VJ and many of his staff will be gone at the end of the season. With that in mind, I'd like to see some real competition brought in at the QB position - whether we keep CK or not. Who knows, he may be like Siemian, just good enough to beat out our other QB talent - but at least we'd have more prospects vying and training for the 2020 job and beyond... same goes if we trade/cut CK... we need to be moving for the future, I highly doubt CK is it.
"Could be" - not - "His woes could being"... I need to proof read better.
DeleteI don't criticize Elway much because I feel that he always tries hard to get the best players we can on the field. Some are fails some are hits. However, I don't think Elway has anything to do with the game plan. Why do we keep getting coaches that can't make adjustments? Even if they have to ask the players what they think will work, it would be doing something. I think what certain people don't like about Elway is that there will never be a total rebuild. I personally like that.
DeleteSounds like we'll get to see Foles play again. Not that I want him. Just don't really want Keenum. There will be some QBs become available.
ReplyDeleteSounds like Malik Jackson will be in play for us a free agent
ReplyDeleteWould he come back at a discount? Don't think he liked that talk last time.
DeleteMalik's numbers are way down this year. In fact, his last year with Denver was his best... seems like the $85M Jax gave him didn't make him any better. I'd pass.
DeleteMy thoughts on Elway. I'd give him a pass on a lot due to the fact he built the team and took us to two superbowls. So I'd give him some leeway to try and rebuild that team again and find a QB post Manning.
ReplyDeleteHe took over in 2011 and we didn't win the superbowl till 2015. So he has had the 2016,17 and 18 seasons to start that rebuild. That is why I think that 2020 year is so important. If we haven't found a QB and HC by then yeah it is definitely time for new leadership. (May have an owner by then too).
But agree, his drafts need to be better and he has to do something at QB. I do think he is learning, Lynch was a reach/reaction. This year the dudes they wanted were gone, so instead of jumping on Allen or Rosen we took BPA and that has worked out pretty well.
His next HC needs to be good, probably go back to a proven guy. Worked with Fox and Kubes, hasn't worked with young guys like McD and VJ.
In the first 5 seasons after JE took over he went 8-8. 13-3, 13-3, 12-4 and 12-4. I'd say that's a pretty dramatic turnaround from one winning (9-7) season in the previous 5 seasons before his arrival. Thing is, those winning seasons came with low draft positions and loss of "stars" due to FA money which partially explains our current and previous 2 poor seasons. JE's 2 biggest mistakes were hiring VJ over Kyle and wasting our 2016 pick on Lynch... Matt Russell (Director of Personnel) was in charge of player personnel and scouting during that time, playing a major role in our successes and failures - he also was a strong advocate of hiring VJ. Maybe he's back on the sauce? But I do agree with you that we need an experienced HC and a good QB - the rest can be tweaked through draft and FA. This year's draft class is not stellar in many areas but there are always gems to be had in any draft if you have an eye for talent over hype. Let's hope we repeat 2018's excellent draft, find a great HC and staff and score big in the 2019 draft/FA.
ReplyDeleteRead something about a sophomore cornerback that is going pro. Not sure what school he was from.
DeleteChargers win with a two-point conversion at the end. Wow what a game
ReplyDeleteMaybe the Chargers will rest their starters. Or at least Gordon. I don't know it's still a couple weeks away so a lot could happen before that.
Delete
