DENVER BRONCOS TRUE FANS BLOG
This Blog is for real Bronco Fans to chat about our favorite team and discuss all things Bronco (This blog was created by Dhag, but Broncobrad kicked him to the curb and has taken it over)Dhag still administrators power on this blog and can kick back!!!
Normally this would be a no brainer easy win, but as we have seen, nothing comes easy these days. Especially when players are dropping like flies.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, this has been a lost season in terms of competitiveness that we have all become acustomed to as Bronco fans over the past four decades.
However, there is a silver lining and certainly some bright spots to be highlighted. I will agree our draft classes have been mostly bad dating back to the early to mid 2000’s. Shanahan stunk it up after he took over as GM/coach and the product on the field sufferred, resulting in him getting let go. 2006 was a great class but they were all gone after McD arrived. 2010 was another pretty solid class, getting the core of our offense for our superbowl runs. Tebow and Miller brought thr fan base back and then Elway did the unthinkable and brought Manning in. We have been able to get some great undrafted free agents that have been great players for us.
Last few draft classes have sucked it up. This years draft class seems to a very good one, and could very well be what carries us for the next 6-8 years.
The silver lining I am talking about is that the injuries we have had are giving this class a chance to step up and get some great reps in that they might not otherwise have gotten and they have performed pretty well. Lindsay is just a beast. Sutton has shown flashes of greatness. Hamilton has been injured some but will get a chance now. Chubb has been very good. Yadom got a chance with some injuries and then got hurt himself. Unfortunate. Offensive line is still a big weakness. We need some help there but really we need a QB who can lead this team. Which leads me to my question.
Baltimore has benched Flacco for Jackson, likely meaning he will be released in the offseason or traded. My guess is released.
Would you sign him over Keenum?
I am not advocating either way, just posing a question for debate.
Flacco would be a slight improvement over Keenum - maybe 2-4 games worth which would be just enough to keep us middle pack or a bit above for however long he stays. Joe will be 34 in a few weeks and Bronco fans remember him for his last minute long ball that knocked us out of the 2012 playoffs. I don't know what kind of money he would demand, but I'd guess a lot more than Kee - which is also too much for the play. So, would I object? Probably not but I wouldn't be thrilled either. II'm a win whore so I don't care who we get or the cost as long as we win consistently and often. Ya, it's the dirty truth, I'll open my arms and lie down with anyone that makes the Broncos winners.
DeleteIn my humble opinion, The QB issue is going to haunt us until we suck bad enough to get a top 1-5 pick, or until a franchise QB (like Manning was) comes along and we pony up the huge bucks, or until we get extremely lucky with a long shot later round draft QB. Continuing with QBs who lost their starting job to someone else seems like we’ll continually be looking for a better QB and we’ll never be anything other than border line playoff team.
ReplyDeleteI understand there is nothing new or revolutionary in what I just typed, but being where we are right now with QBs and having no hope in sight really SUCKS! We’d need multiple monster drafts in a row to replenish the offensive line, defensive backfield to be able to get by with a game manager retread like Keenum or Flacco last his prime. Hard to see how that can happen.
Maybe it is time for the ownership situation to be settled so a new culture and new leadership can change things. With where we are now, something drastic needs to happen!
Flacco past his prime.
DeleteDont think Keenum had a prime haha.
ReplyDeleteWell maybe last year was his prime
Right now he is prime for back-up QB, like he was for most of his career.
ReplyDeleteGood grief. The ugliest first possession of the year?? Just what we need for a must win game.
ReplyDeleteAnd the defense is worse.
ReplyDeleteLindsay is getting hit in the backfield on every attempt.
ReplyDeleteLindsay is our ONLY threat... D's are gonna jump on him to stop us.
DeleteKeenum outruns ‘em into the end zone!
ReplyDeleteTD!
ReplyDeleteKee lumbers into the EZ for a TD 7-7
ReplyDeleteLumbers is a great description!
DeleteLOL, ya he runs like he has an anvil in his jock...
DeleteLet’s see if the momentum carries over to the defense.
ReplyDeleteI actually wanna lose - I've moved on to draft position and a new HC...
DeleteThat was where I was at 2. Still Brothers.
DeleteLangley down, another CB out? WOW!
ReplyDeleteDavis made a nasty sack on Baker
ReplyDeleteWe got the ball back on our 12
ReplyDeleteMcFG 10-7 DEN
ReplyDeleteYes it does - maybe give the ball to Royce and Booker more - CLV is definitely keying on Lindsay.
ReplyDeleteCome onDefense!
ReplyDeleteloved the anvil in his jock comment. i was rolling hahaha
ReplyDeleteThird defensive penalty this drive to keep Browns drive alive.
ReplyDeleteHolding them to a FG on that drive feels like a victory.
ReplyDelete10-10 - our D is noodle soft
ReplyDeleteBad drop by Patrick - in the hands
ReplyDeleteGreat job by Keenum to find him, but ya, horrible drop.
DeleteTerrible lob by Case
ReplyDeleteInsert Charles Barkley saying “turrible”
DeleteINT in EZ - we're trying to lose... try harder.
ReplyDeleteShould have went into the half with a lead.
ReplyDeleteTo his credit, Joseph did tell him to take more chances downfield.
ReplyDeletenice play by Gotsis
ReplyDeleteNice defense
ReplyDeleteand now we are going to give them the ball back with a minute left
ReplyDeleteWhy does CK always run 30 yds backwards?
ReplyDeleteCLV has time to score...
ReplyDeletedodged a bullet there with the pick
ReplyDeleteWe get an int! That helped.
ReplyDeleteINT DEN - Thomas, sets us up for the kneel down
ReplyDeleteLucky to not be down at the half
ReplyDeleteGood to see we can execute the kneel down play ok. We’ll be ready if we ever need to do that at the end of a game.
ReplyDeleteLove our young guys. All we need is a HC, QB, couple of CBs and some health next year and we can be tough.
ReplyDeleteI’d add an offensive lineman or two to my wish list. Current iteration of O line is playing better, but we need more from them as a group.
DeleteI agree but like you said, our OL is getting better and with the return of Garcia, Leary and Paradis next year plus our added experience from this year, we could be fine there... or only need maybe 1 guy.
DeleteFrom what the announcer said, evidently Kee thinks of himself as a "gunslinger"... How do you do that without a gun?
ReplyDeleteA 2mm isn’t a gun?!
DeleteDaisy BB
Deleteon 3rd and 2, we are playing 8 yards off the line. how do you hold them with that kind of defense?
ReplyDeleteHonestly I think Leary will be gone. He has missed more than half of each year.
ReplyDeleteCan we trade OC’s with Cleveland?
ReplyDeleteJoseph looks clueless on the sidelines
ReplyDeleteUmmm... not just on the sideline
Deletefumble!
ReplyDeleteCLV wants our draft position... we gotta stop them!
ReplyDeletenice play by Patrick
ReplyDeleteLooks like we've shelved the run... it's all on our gunslinger now.
ReplyDeletehaha
Deletewhy do we keep throwing balls behind the line?
ReplyDeleteWe need to try some thing other than the behind the line pass. They might have figured that play out.
ReplyDeleteFG. Have the lead
ReplyDeleteMcMoney!!
ReplyDeleteMcFG 13-10 Den
ReplyDeleteJewel a little slow on the coverage there.
ReplyDeleteBrowns pulling a Bronco, shooting themselves in the foot.
ReplyDeleteWhy did we burn a damn timeout? we had all that time during the ejection discussion to get our shit together
ReplyDeleteAnd then we burn a timeout because the defense can’t get set after a 5 min delay. Unbelievable.
ReplyDeleteHahaha VJina takes a time out - we've got a 3pt lead so TOs to spare!
ReplyDeleteVon Miller just smeared Mayfield to take the all time Broncos sack record
ReplyDeleteSimon Fletcher is one of my all time favs - and gets no love. Is he even in our ring of fame?
DeleteYes sir
DeleteWe're gonna have Wadman play CB...
ReplyDeleteAfter that throw, maybe he should try QB instead.
DeleteI'm all for it! Kee can play CB!
Deletewhat a horrible throw
ReplyDeleteOur gunslinger tosses INT #2!
ReplyDeleteinto triple coverage
DeleteNew nickname for the gunslinger - Daisy.
DeleteI like that, Daisy Dukes
Deletecan we call him Red Rider?
ReplyDeleteand after the terrible TO we are now down 4
ReplyDelete17-13 Clv
ReplyDeleteThey are crowding the line and forcing us to throw it downfield
ReplyDeleteTo take away the run
DeleteLindsay 10 runs for 12 yds.
ReplyDeleteLindsay cant run it, throw it to him
ReplyDeleteRolls Royce eith a solid run
ReplyDeleteshitty spot. vance better challenge
ReplyDeleteRed Rider slinging beebees on this drive
ReplyDeletelindsay with the good run
ReplyDeleteFg attempt. Gonna still be down 1
ReplyDeletewhy allow a delay penalty on a FG attempt? wtf
ReplyDeleteWe should go for it but we'll go FG
ReplyDeletewell we ran twice and got 1 yard. not good odds in this game running the ball
DeleteYa but we ran with the guy they're keying on - give to anvil jock CK to lumber it in...
Deletestill down 1. better hope we hold them and get the ball back
ReplyDelete17-16 CLV - poor HC decision insures a loss for Denver
ReplyDeletehey did you not hear them say this is the time
Deleteof the game where Case is at his best?
haha
they also showed when he throws more than 33 times he usually loses. he has over 40 tonight
DeleteWish I had more confidence in our depleted defense.
ReplyDeletewell so much for holding them
ReplyDeletePeko trying to fire up the D.
ReplyDelete12 guys on the field
ReplyDeleteOur coaching is killing CLV - laughing to death
ReplyDeletewell even if we hold them to 3 now we have to score a TD
ReplyDeletewith virtually no time left and no timeouts
DeleteThis is painful to watch.
ReplyDeleteOur problem is VJina loves a good licking
ReplyDeletewhy not take the timeout and make them run another play and have it fourth down potentially at the two minute warning?
ReplyDeletenow they run a play, we call a timeout and then they kick the FG running more time off the clock.
we got lucky he went out of bounds
ReplyDeletecleveland going for it
ReplyDeletestopped em!
ReplyDeletewe got a shot
ReplyDeleteGood news is we got the ball back.
ReplyDeletecome Red Rider. sling that rock here
ReplyDeleteDaisy Dukes on rampage
ReplyDeletethat was a dumb throw downfield. we need to move the ball and the chains
ReplyDeleteWe need yards so we go to the play that hasn’t worked all night.
ReplyDeletebooker with the first.
ReplyDeleteNeed 2 throw it 5 yds short
ReplyDelete4th and 10 here. its all or nothing
ReplyDeletecase sacked. fitting end
ReplyDeleteGood news is we just moved up in the draft.
ReplyDeleteHahahahaha! We get to swap draft positions with the Browns YAY!
ReplyDeletewe now have lost to two of the three rookie QB’s we could have drafted this year
ReplyDeleteMeh, Mayfield doesn't excite me... CLV can have him.
DeleteShould we have gone on that 4th & 1 down near the goal? Yep, but VJina loves to be licked.
ReplyDeleteWe are now a lofty 6-8 and the best we can hope for is 8-8. Even if we luck out and lose our final 2 games (6-10) we'll still have at least a dozen or more teams drafting ahead of us. We can't even fuck up a season right. I hope the 3-10 Raiders stomp us so the deal can be sealed. Yes, I wanted to lose but geez, it still sucks.
ReplyDeleteHi. I can't say I'm to disappointed with the loss. We need another high draft pick. Looking at the standings, the only teams that should be drafting in front of us for sure would be Oakland, New York Jets, Buffalo. Losing out the rest of the way could get us as high as fourth pick and Vance gone. I'm all for that.
ReplyDeleteOops. That should be Jacksonville instead of Buffalo. Buffalo can still pass us. They are 5 and 9.
DeleteBuffalo and New York Jets got a quarterback last year, the Raiders have Derek Carr, so that leaves Jacksonville that needs a quarterback in front of us. Personally, I would rather we went after a cornerback or a tackle. Surprise, surprise, huh obf?
DeleteIDK, what about AZ, SF, NYG, TB, ATL, GB and DET added to your BUF, NYJ, JAX, LAR plus some others that may come down to tie breakers for lowest spot? We've got some slacking off cut out for us to move up to #4 - I know, I know VJina is up to the challenge and perfectly incapable enough to get us down there but we've got some young players willing to give their 100% to the very end... maybe a pep talk from our Daisy-slinger will convince them that losing is better for the team?
DeleteHaha. I'm an idiot. I was only looking at AFC.
ReplyDeleteForgiven, CIN, PHI and CAR are some of those "others" I mentioned - we do have to lose both games and hope the others will win out. I see SF won against SEA today so if they win their last 2, they could leap frog us based on head to head. Hoping Kyle finds a way to win out... shit for ALL those teams mentioned to win out.
DeleteThe Raiders might try harder than you think. It's probably the last game in the black hole. Rumor is they're not going to play in Oakland again next year. But can't move to Vegas until 2020 though. I heard San Antonio mentioned as an option.
Deletewe are sitting at 14th right now as the updated draft slots have been released
ReplyDelete1. Cardinals
2. Raiders
3. Jets
4. 49ers
5. Jaguars
6 Falcons
7. Lions
8. Giants
9. Bucs
10. Bills
11. Packers
12. Panthers
13. Eagles
14. Broncos
15. Bengals
16. Browns
17. Dolphins
18. Redskins
14th is way to low for the guy I like that I mentioned the other day. I think he's from LSU. A 6'2" CB. Pretty sure he is a sophomore coming out early. I haven't watched any tape though.
DeleteActually we are in the running for fourth. Only the top three have records bad enough to not tie us if we lose out. Granted I did not look at the schedules.
DeleteI predict we end up around tenth.
DeleteA tall, skinny corner (6’2/182), Williams is extremely difficult to shake in coverage due to his combination of long speed and quick-twitch agility, and he shows natural ball skills on the rare occasions that SEC quarterbacks decide to test him.
Delete@ Brad - That list is outdated since the Eagles have 7 wins now (they won), we only have 6 so we should be at least 1 slot higher. CAR is tied with us at 6 wins right now until they play on Monday (Saints), then comes TB, ATL, DET, GB, NYG, and BUF all with 5 wins each. Then comes SF, JAX and NYJ each with 4 wins. OAK and AZ both have only 3 wins so we have no chance of getting higher than them. We're tied with CAR at 6 wins each so if we both lose out, I don't know who has the tie breaker for the lower record. All the 5 win teams have to win at least 1 game for us to move above them and those at 4 wins nee to win out and we still need tie breakers to decide who is higher... that's all based on us losing both our final 2 games.
Delete@ Digger - Here's the schedules for the teams ahead or tied with us;
NYJ = GB, @NE**
BUF = @NE, MIA
JAX = @MIA, @HOU
NYG = @IND, DAL**
GB = @NYJ, DET**
DET = MN, @GB**
ATL = @CAR, @TB**
CAR = ATL, @NO
TB = @DAL, ATL
SF = LAR, @SEA
OAK*
PHI*
AZ*
* = Doesn't matter, we can't catch them or we are already ahead of them (PHI).
** = Teams ahead of us but who play each other meaning at least 1 win for them (whoever wins).
Basically if we lose out we are assured of moving up 2-3 more spots just from the teams that play each other. We'd have a good chance of moving up a few more spots if some of the other teams win out or we tie and jump them on tie breakers. So Ima gonna guess we wind up at 7th pick (yes, optimistic) but it will be my luck VJina will do something stupid like win another game or two and dicks us before being fired with a lower draft position than we have now.
so another QB question...
ReplyDeleteNick Foles over Keenum or Flacco? I think he will be a free agent again this year. Just throwing out options.
Depends who the next HC wants.
DeleteI'm thinking I don't want any free agent quarterback. Maybe if we trade for somebody. Like see if Gruden stupid enough to let Derek Carr go.
DeleteFoles is no better than Keenum. Flacco is an improvement over keenum, but Flacco only as much as keenum was an improvement over sieman. I think Flacco’s body is cooked though.
ReplyDeleteI think Foles is by far better than Keenum. Would he be more successful here than Keenum? probably marginally with our line. But with a better line, he would be much better. I watched him play a lot last year since the damn Eagles are on here every week, and I liked what I saw. He has played well in place of Wentz this year as well.
DeleteB1st i posted that before the Eagles won.
ReplyDeleteso rumors are swirling that Elway had meetings with Mike Shanahan and Cousins after last season to make Mike head coach and Cousins would have come to Denver.
ReplyDeleteApparently Joe Ellis nixed the idea because he wanted to keep VanJina. However, he has apparently grown tired of Joseph and wants him gone. He has admitted Shanahan is a candidate to replace Joseph.
Someone also updated Joseph’s wiki page to former head coach. haha
ReplyDeletenot sure if that is legit or not since it still says head coach
DeleteLOL! Lots of rumors, I read one that said JE gave VJ a 2 yr extension... couldn't find anything to verify it so just junk rumor.
DeleteI saw another speculation on BroncosWire that said the Broncos may be moving on from Shane Ray. It's based on his performance and that he's been a healthy scratch for the last 2 games. Makes sense I guess - they've been using Holland so he may be that guy next year.
DeletePlay all the rookies and practice squad players for the rest of the year! No time like a lost season to see what we've got.
DeleteI agree - for sure sit any stars that are still healthy, no sense in risking them for 2019.
DeleteShanny and Cousins. That would have been interesting.
DeleteShanny and Kubes next year I could get down with. But would Shanny give over player personnel decisions?
Also find that rumour interesting that Ellis wanted to keep VJ. That changes the narrative that Elway can't get out of his egos way.
Another rumour is that Matt Russell is on his way out. Some thinking Elway could be on the list as well. Since this report came from Woody is Elway starting a PR battle against Ellis? (i.e leaked this). Because no way Ellis wins a PR battle with Elway with his track record of McD and now VJ it seems.
DeleteGould, if Russell is on his way out (no objection here) I wonder who will fill his role? Could it possibly be Kubes? I say this based on our last draft class that went so well as opposed to several of the previous ones that didn't go well. The only difference I see is the addition of Kubes to the FO as the "senior personnel advisor".
DeleteShane Rey and su’a Cravens popping off about not playing Saturday. Doubt they play anymore this year, or foe the Broncos again.
ReplyDeleteThe replrt said Shanahan doesn’t want personnel control any longer and would only return to coaching as a head coach. So it could work. Not sure Tubes would nead back down to the sidelines as an OC but I am sure Shanahan could
ReplyDeleteconvince him. Hell put Elway back out there. We won a SB with noodle arm Manning. Elway can still sling it around. Maybe not as much as our current gunslinger, but who knows.
Trade back with MN for Slotter - give them Ray.
DeleteI usually google tankathon.com to find out where we at stand in next years draft.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Didn't know that site existed. We have some work to NOT do to move up the list.
DeleteI read thru the comments for the week and find criticisms of the HC and QB, but not the guy who selected both of them.
ReplyDeleteI read the responses to my comments last week and saw a bunch of numbers and records but you can make numbers and stats fit your point without some in depth look behind the numbers.
Here are my thoughts.
Elway brought Manning in and it was the best free agent signing in Bronco history and one of the all time best signings in the league. Elway gets 100% of the credit. Manning was old school and admired Elway. We don't get Manning or the 2 following SB's and one championship with out Elway.
The year after Manning, the top free agents were Welker and Vasquez. The next year we signed Ware, Talib, Ward and Sanders. Many of these signings were at a discount. I contend that it was the opportunity to play with Manning that lured these champions here. I am willing to give Elway credit for it, but make no doubt about it, without Manning and the chance for a championship, the majority of the guys would not have come to Denver.
Since Manning has left, the young QBs do not have the same respect and admiration for Elway that Manning did. Elway failed in convincing Oz to stay (maybe a good thing, but Elway was willing to spend big and commit to OZ). Elway could not lure Kap to come here (again maybe a good thing).Last year, Cousins would not even talk to Elway about coming. The only free agent Elway could lure here was Keenum and most of us hated that move from day 1.
Since Manning left, the broncos have missed or will miss the playoffs for 3 consecutive season. The 2017 team was not even competitive and it seems like they were blown out in most of the games. More than likely the Broncos will suffer consecutive losing seasons for the first time since Tricky Dick was president.
I read that Elway's drafts have been as good as most of the teams. I could not disagree more. His overall draft record has been lousy. I will give him credit in his first draft for taking Miller with the 2nd pick, but only a fool would have blown that pick. But Elway was no fool and should get credit. Also the 2018 draft was outstanding, but maybe that had to do with Kubiak. Whatever the reason, maybe Elway learned some things and changed some things for the 2018 draft. But the other years were pathetic , especially 2017.
Hence the lack of talent and depth on the roster.
And Elway's choices for QBs, other than Manning. Pathetic. We wasted a first and third pick for a stiff that could not play. A double bust in my mind.
So, that being said, I hope Elway and his staff use the same draft evaluation process for 2019 as they did in 2018. Same for 2020.
As far as coaches go, Elway selected a HC with no previous head coaching experience and only 1 year of lackluster coordinator experience. Surely he knew there would be growing pains. Add in dogshit QB's, and I don't think head coaching has been our main problem. I don't care it they fire VJ or not. If they get somebody better, then great, but not the biggest problem in my opinion.
It would be Elway's 4th HC hire after 8 years, not a great track record. Fox for 4 years, Kubiak for 2 years (and everyone knew of his health issues going in, but we got a championship), VJ for 2 years.
QB is our biggest problem in my mind. I would put the odds at 99% that, barring injury, he will be the QB next year. I'm not thrilled with the QBs that might be available to us in the draft. I don't have an answer for the QB position. I guess I would wait and mortgage the farm for one of the top QB's in the 2020 draft.
This is the most negative I have been on the Broncos since 1974.
👌
DeleteStatically speaking, I think I've seen that Elway is league average in drafting. That is ok but if we want to win consistently he needs to do better.
DeleteWith the reports of Ellis meddling with the coaching hires I don't know anymore who picked who. Who to level the blame at?
QB is our biggest problem though by far.
I agree with all this but I don't think we have hit McD levels yet....with the Elway vs Ellis and ownership feuds we may be getting close. Need a cage match to sort shit out.
OBF, you're pretty hard on Elway, so who do you like better that we could actually get? I've looked up the rankings of GMs by many different sports publications and they all have Elway ranked in the top 10 - many in the top 5. I get your frustration with the last 3 crappy seasons, no bronco fan likes it. But IMO, QB and HC has been the major problems along with lousy lines on both D & O, both of which has had a big impact on QB performance (playing from behind or usually on their behind). I guess we'll just have to disagree and see how things play out.
DeleteLindsay first undrafted rookie to go to the pro bowl.
ReplyDeleteLindsay deserves to go... him and Von are our only 2 players to make it. Keenum just missed - by a mile high, or low, or wide...
DeleteDevin White, LB
ReplyDeleteSchool: LSU | Year: Junior
White is an explosive player in the mold of previous LSU linebackers Deion Jones and Kwon Alexander. He has sideline-to-sideline range and the ability to match up with tight ends in coverage.
We have had Woodyard, Trevathan and now Cravens fill that role. I don't think we value the position and linebackers for that matter.
DeleteChargers killed us with old ass Gates. We need to cover TEs.
