Lets get on with training camp already
The last post was full so I put this one up to continue the discussion.
USA today has their post draft power rankings out. Broncos are ranked at 26. They think we wasted a draft on Lock when we had so many other needs to fill.
Brad, I just saw your response from way back on the 5th year option. I'm going to cut and paste some text on how it works and then my next post will be my personal comments.
Every player selected in the first round of the NFL Draft will automatically have a Fifth-Year Option added in his contract. This option cannot be separately attached to the player contract.
The option allows a team to retain a player’s rights for five years rather than the standard four, which is the bonus of selecting a player in the first round. In order to extend the contract, the team must inform the player during the period between the last regular season game of his third contract year and May 3 of the next League Year (Art. 7, Sec. 7, (a), 31).
The Fifth-Year Option is non-negotiable, and the non-compensation terms from a player’s rookie contract will be transferred to the fifth year.
Many terms allowed in other contracts are prohibited from being added into the Fifth-Year Option. These terms include Option Bonuses, Option Exercise Fees, option Non-Exercise fees, Option Buyouts, or any other compensation that stems from the team exercising or declining the Fifth-year option (Sec. 7 (d), 31).
When a team exercises the option, it becomes guaranteed for injury only. If the player is on the team’s roster at the start of the League Year in his option season, his salary becomes fully guaranteed for skill, cap and injury.
The payments are not considered Rookie Salary and do not count toward league or club rookie pools or allocations. The player’s option-year salary is also not subject to the 25% Rule.
The salary of the option year is also the only payment a player is eligible to receive for football services outside of minimum offseason workout per diems and compensation for non-football related team activities.
The salary for the Fifth-Year Option is also different for two types of players: those selected in the top-ten picks and all other first-round selections.
The option for top-ten picks is set at an amount equal to the salary of the Transition Tender (set in Article 10, Section 4 of the CBA) for the player’s fourth contract year. This salary is calculated, to put it simply, by finding the average of the top ten highest Prior Year Salaries for players at the same position. Positions are defined by where a player spent the most plays during the previous season (Sec. 7, (a), 31), unless you ask Jimmy Graham.
For players selected between 11th and 32nd in the draft, the same calculation is used to compute their salaries. The difference lies in what is averaged; rather than the top ten, the 3rd-25th highest Prior Year Salaries for the player’s position will be used.
If a team decides to use its option, the player can face substantial fines for refusing to report to camp on time and/or at all. Players can be fined up to $30,000 per day of training camp missed and a fine equal to one week’s regular season (1/17 of P5 Salary) check for any preseason games missed.
The Fifth-Year Option is intended provide teams with more security when it invests a valuable first-round pick on a player.
So it is a team option and the team wants to have this option. The team can decline the option and then it is the same as if it was just a 4 year deal.
The benefit to the team is that the player can be extended for another year (yes at a higher one year amount), but no long term deal and no bonuses are involved, so it can save significant cash (not cap) in the fifth year. Again, the team can decline it. It is also not guaranteed.
That is why so many teams in the past have traded into the end of the first round, especially for QBs, because the 5th year option can be very valuable and there is no risk because it can be declined by the team.
They changed up their scouts yesterday or the day before. Klein Kubiak is gone, may be going to join dad in MN, switched one scout from one district to another and hired 1 or 2 new ones and made some promotions, here it is; The Broncos hired Frantzy Jourdain as their new southeast area scout and moved scout Eugene Armstrong from the southeast to the southwest region. Kubiak previously scouted the southwest area. Denver also hired Eddie Simpkins, a former personnel intern, as a scouting assistant and promoted Rob Paton and Deon Randall to college/pro scouts. Here’s a look at the team’s updated personnel/scouting staff, with their years with the team in parentheses:
John Elway: President of Football Ops./GM (2011-pres.)
Matt Russell: Director of Player Personnel (2009-pres.)
A.J. Durso: Director of Pro Personnel (2013-pres.)
Brian Stark: Director of College Scouting (2012-pres.)
Eugene Armstrong: Southwest Area Scout (2007-pres.)
Dave Bratten: College Scouting Coord./Area Scout (1997-pres.)
Scott DiStefano: Midwest Area Scout (1982-pres.)
Frantzy Jourdain: Southeast Area Scout (2019)
Darren Mougey: Western Regional Scout (2012-pres.)
Nick Schiralli: Eastern Regional Scout (2008-pres.)
Titbits, Sanders recovering, Risner at LG, Jackson working at Safety. Leary, Lindsay, Yiadom and Callahan all recovering on track for OTAs. Flacco will get all reps with the ones.
Also working on a contract with Harris. Expect Broncos counteroffer at the end of the week.
Speaking Monday, Joe Flacco said he had no interest in mentoring second-round QB Drew Lock. "I got so many things to worry about," Flacco said, embarking on his second-straight season of poor leadership ahead of a rookie quarterback. "I’m not worried about developing guys or any of that. That is what it is. I hope he does develop. I don’t look at that as my job. My job is to go win football games for this football team." As was the case with Lamar Jackson, Flacco figures to be replaced by Lock at some point in 2019.
Though I get Flacco's point I also think it is short sighted. The more you teach the more you learn. Two sets of eyes are always better than one, plus to bounce ideas and information off another person is great to develop better understanding. He should be seeing Lock more as a resource and tool to get himself better than competition. You know the whole idea of 'team culture' and this being a 'team sport' versus an individual.
Offensive lineman Nico Falah is out for the 2019 season after he a tore his Achilles during workouts on Monday, per Mike Klis of 9News. And so it begins... next up. Why are we getting so many Achilles injuries? Seems like a lot lately.
Falah went down during a conditioning drill and needed a cart to leave the field.
Achilles are ligaments, really hard to do anything for them, can only stretch them so much. Maybe over work through too much running causing the injuries. Really is a freak injury.
A tear or rupture is usually the result of excessive or repetitive stress on the ankle and feet. People who play sports that require rapid changes of pace or direction, such as tennis, football, and soccer, often incur injuries to the Achilles tendon.
These types of injury are also more likely when a person first starts a new sport or returns to an activity after a prolonged break. Sudden increases in exercise intensity can also lead to Achilles tendon injuries.
Overuse of calf muscles is also the other most common cause. So not stretching the calves and lifting intensely can cause these injuries. From my quick google lol
If Ray does as well for them as Dumervile did for them, then they owe us in a big way - and I expect repayment to be made in the form of Flacco! LOL! So no pressure Joe... but yeah, pressure!
Kind of mixed emotions about the raise. No doubt he earned it, but he signed a contract for what he was getting. It will be interesting to see what he gets when he hits the open market in his 30's.
sad day for Broncos fans. Pat was a true NFL man and a great owner. He brought so much to the game and the organization. He will be missed. RIP Pat. (please leave your sock with Joe)
It's 9:38pm Friday and I just found out the sad news that Pat has gone to the big ring of fame in the sky. Thank you for being such a great owner and building a team that Bronco fans can cheer more often than not. RIP Mr. Bowlen, you will always be remembered fondly by Bronco fans and respected by NFL fans everywhere.
Hi all. Personal note. If you didn't know, my wife of 28 years passed away on June 15,2018. Happy to say, I have found love again and am engaged to another Bronco fan. The being a Bronco fan had a huge part in us getting acquainted. Life(God) is good!
I saw on the NFL network this morning that some dude named Rank says the Broncos will go 2-14 this year because we hired an old guy for a head coach instead of a youngster and because of Flacco. Sure hope we prove that dipshit wrong!
A Whole lot of nothing going with the Broncos right now. I guess that's better the Dove Valley Days off seasons. No DUIs, no wife/girlfriend beatings,no contract hold outs, maybe quiet is good!
The last time we visited “DOVE VALLEY DAZE”, Pat Bowlen was still with us but alas, he has gone on to that great sock drawer in the sky, where every sock is orange or blue - or both! R.I.P. Pat, Joe Ellis can’t hide your socks anymore! Speaking of Joe, today he’s holding his first organizational meeting since Pat’s passing. Every staff member, coach and player is required to attend.
Joe; I suppose you are all wondering why I’ve brought you here today so shortly after Mr. Bowlen death… I just wanted to say “The Butler did it”!
Emmanuel Sanders blurts out; Y’all telling us Malcom Butler did it? Them Belichick boys don’t play but you wait til I see that sucker next time, I’magonna smoke his ass like Josh McDaniels on a crack pipe, I’magonna score on him like he’s a Kardashian! I’magonna…
Joe; Calm down Em, it was a joke, to umm, you know, lighten the mood…? Jokes aside, the real reason I called this meeting is to discuss ownership. As you all know, Bitch Bowlen… oops, I mean Beth Bowlen and that lovely, smart, intelligent and capable young Brittany Bowlen have both expressed interest in running the Broncos.
Em interrupts; Oh, gotcha… my bad… but I’magonna still whoop on Butler’s ass like he done been humppin’ my ho. I jest don’t like his sorry azz, talkin’ his crazy shit and throwin’ shade like he think he somebody special… I’magonna…
Joe; Calm down Em, we don’t even play the Patriots this year, unless of course we see them in the playoffs…
Em jumps up again; Y’all tellin’ us we ain’t agonna win the Super Bowl dis year? Boy, I’magonna whoop yo ass now, ain’t nobody gonna keep me from spankin’ Butler like he done cursed in church, I’magonna…
Joe; Sit down Em before you rupture that Achilles again and…
Em; Whatchoo mean boy, shit I’d cut my damn leg off if I had to, ain’t no way I’magonna miss chuckin’ TD balls at Butler after I’s make him look like he waz asleepin’, I’magonna hop around on one leg and dunk his azz at da goal post, I’magonna…
Joe; Umm, Mr. Antonopulos, I think Mr. Sanders is past his pain medication time… he needs some fentanyl, like a double dose please…
Em; Why thank you Joe, ya’ll’s always lookin’ out for us playas, next time da goods is commin’ from my stash, wink, wink, you da man Joe!
Joe; Yeah, right Em.. now as I was saying about the ownership issue, we have Bitch, I mean Beth and we have our beloved Brittany let’s have a big booya for brilliant Brittany and what’s her name over there. As you know, I am the current acting owner / #1 trustee along with the other two assistants who do as I say, and as such, I would like to be impartial, even handed and under my unquestionably unbiased leadership, (crowd laughs and laughs) I would like to have a “hand vote” on who the people of this fine organization would like to see as the new owner in charge - do you agree John?
John Elway; Thank you Joe, as you know, Pat always thought of me like the son he never had and I thought of him like a father, so in a way, I think I should be the new owner. In fact, Pat whispered those very words to me right after I handed him the Lombardi trophy and proclaimed “This one’s for you Pat”! True story, in fact, Pat put it in writing right here on one of my John Elway Steak House napkins over dinner and drinks right after winning my 2nd Super Bowl (John holds up a crumpled, Jack Daniels stained napkin with some blurred, scribbled writing on it).
Suddenly Joe grabs the mic, pushing John off the stage and shouts “Not so fast there Johnny boy, I have a long lost last will too” as Joe reaches into his vest pocket and pulls out a dirty orange sock with what appears to be writing on it. Here’s proof that Pat wanted me alone to inherit the Broncos, me, not Elway, not Pat’s druggie son John, not that slut Annabelle, not air head Amie, wimpy Patrick, that cunt Christiana, “beautiful” Brittany and certainly not that bitch Beth! He wanted me, me, MEEEEE to be king… uh, owner!
Von Milller then wrestles the mic from Joe’s death grip (after considerable effort and a few karate chops from Elway); “Hey man, I got one of those too” and pulls out his jock strap (which he was still wearing) and begins to twirl it on his finger above his head sayin “I got this in the sack”.
Em; (miraculously raising his head from Antonopulos’ fentanyl induced coma) “Yo, I’s got 3 of those, one on each shoe an another tattooed on my azz after one night when we’s got into his meds. I’d be the new owner and da drinks iz on me, drop the mic fool”
Joe; Steve, give Em another 100ccs of Fent, shut that clown up!
Em; Thanks Joe, you’s ma main homie bro”.
Soon, nearly everyone in the room was pulling out their own “lost will and testament” claiming their “ownership” of the team when abruptly, the closed doors burst open and an enormous hulk of a man bulldozed his way through the fighting crowd (and numerous missed tackles by Dekoda Watson) then spiked the football he’d been clutching onto the speaker’s podium… yes, it was Terrell Davis in all his glory!
TD; Fools, everyone knows I won us 2, count them TWO Super Bowls and right there on that football, in Pat’s own words, in black indelible marker, I am the one he wanted to own his team! TD then gave the Mile High Salute which immediately stopped the infighting as they all returned the salute.
From the now quiet room, lo and behold a booming voice rang out “I, AM, THE, CHOSEN, ONE!”. Yup, it was Peyton Fucking Manning himself, in the flesh and as he stood in his golden robes, he slowly opened a Pappa Johns pizza box with his limp arm and you could see light emanating from the pepperoni that spelled out “PFM is the heir - (hyphen in anchovy) Pat”.
Joe; Can’t argue with that…
John; Beats my napkin…
Von; I faked my jock…
TD; I liked broadcasting anyways, gives me a chance to reminisce…
Em; (Again miraculously reaches up from his coma, shoves the pizza in PFM’s face and mutters), “Fuck that forehead, you can kiss ma tattooed azz!”.
As I stepped away, all I could see was pizza flying, Von’s jock being used as a slingshot, dirty socks shoved in Joe’s mouth, Beth and Brittany in a hair-pulling cat fight and Elway Steak House napkins being lit on fire and rifled across the room as if they were on a rope… Dove Valley Daze are back to normal!
Todd Davis was carried off the field on first day of camp with a calf injury. He is having an MRI done to determine the extent of the injury... wow, 1st day...
Went to the second practice on last Friday. My observations.
Surprised at the small crowd of fans and the radio guys said that there were even less fans at the first practice. I would guess that attendance is down over 50%. Fangio does not play music during the practice. He stated afterwards that it impedes the coaches from communicating with the players. He might be right but it seems to take away some spirit from the players. Only helmets and shoulder pads today, so not a lot of contact.
I have been to practices for teams coached by Shanny, McDipShit, Fox and VJ. All of these practices were quick and fast paced, moving from drill to drill. Fangio practices are more deliberate with considerably more time spent on each drill with more teaching. So these practices get less done but are more focused on fewer concepts. Maybe this is good, don't know. We will see. Certainly this team could improve on its fundamentals, so maybe it will be good.
Lots and lots on individual coaching during offensive line drills. I'm excited about that.
I try to be objective in my assessments. Here is what I saw from the QB's. Seemed like Flacco and Lock had the strongest arms. Flacco looked good at times and terrible at times. Lot of inconsistency, but in terms of pocket presence, reading defenses and making quick decisions, he was way ahead of everyone else. As would be expected of an experienced QB versus the new guys. Hogan was awful. His first pass in 11 on 11 was a pick six. He has another interception. He got all of the 2nd team reps. It seemed to me that Rypien got more 3rd team reps than Lock but the stats afterwards said the reps were about even. Both rookies struggled with making quick decisions and throws. To be expected. Lock make a few great completions but also side armed a few into the dirt.
Lindsay and Sanders were both limited, but both showed explosiveness and speed.
Fant looked impressive and Sutton made a great leaping catch against tight coverage.
The defense totally dominated the offense in 7 on 7 and 11 on 11.
I was kind of bored with the practice. Slow paced and no music, but I will give Fangio the benefit of the doubt and hope that the methodology changes result in better team play.
Thinking about going again today. Trying to find out if they will be in full pads.
Interesting to note you mentioned Lock is side-arming the ball. From the videos put out by the club you can see that his release isn't at the high point, it is a long way out from over the shoulder. Easy to see when you compare it to flaccos'. I hope that doesn't became an issue down the line.
Yeah I wonder if that is just his style, but it isn't prototypical. Just something to note for the future.
Also gives a bit more context to that Fanigo quote about he is a pitcher that doesn't know how to pitch yet. I do hope they don't spend ages trying to 'fix' him. Just let him play and get better.
Went to Broncos practice again today. Full pads today, so a little more intense. Not a lot of hitting but more than in just shorts.
First the positives. The defense showed some fire. Bradley Chubb and Kareem Jackson were leading the intensity. Chubb was leading the crowd in rhythmic clapping. Jackson was flying around in 11 on 11. Once he got called for pass interference and he threw the flag back at the ref. Not good in games, but got everyone fired up in practice. Deshawn Jackson also showed some attitude in drills against the offensive linemen.
The defense is just dominating. Miller and Chubb look unstoppable. The defensive backs look great. Seems like we have lost a member of the No Fly Zone every year, but the new corners along with Harris and Simmons have the potential to be great again.
Lots of positives on defense, not so much on offense. The only players I see with some passion and grit are Lindsey and Sanders. Sanders only does 7 on 7 and not 11 on 11.
On to the QBs. Clearly at this point of the season, Flacco is easily the best QB out there. He runs hot and cold. He will have a series where he makes plays and then all of a sudden his timing is way off. Lock and Rypien have a long way to go but they are certainly better than a week ago. Better pocket presence and moving around with confidence and making plays on the run. Hogan is awful. Based on my 2 attended practices, I don't see him making the team. But we will see how they all look in preseason games.
Lock took some snaps with the 2nd team and made a few great throws, one on a long pass in 11 on 11 to Austin Fort, a TE that got behind Josey Jewell.
Speaking of TE's, they got a lot of action today. I think that we are still going to have a problem defending the TE's. But I like all of the emphasis on getting the ball to them.
Damn Lindsey is quick.
Lots of mistakes by the offense. Boles jumped early and got some boos from the crowd. There were at least 5 fumbled snaps, including 3 by the first team. During work on the Hail Mary, with defensive back basically just standing around in the end zone by design, Sutton had a ball bounce of his chest, which also elicited groans from the crowd. It was almost like a fair catch situation.
Another observation on the young QB's. They are still learning to make quick decisions and scramble around but at least keep the eyes looking downfield for an open receiver. Certainly a lot better than Paxton Lynch who would just pull the ball down in 7 on 7 and take off running up the middle. He was such a bonehead.
Bug Howard, a TE that had looked decent hurt his leg and was carted off the field. It did not look good.
On one play, Jewell and Boles got tied up and Jewell shoved him after the play. Bolles took a step toward him and then turned around and returned to the huddle. I know they are discouraging fighting, but I would have liked to see some more toughness from him.
A bigger crowd today but still way down compared to the glory years.
Preseason games begin tonight for the Broncos - sorta... Not many of the starters will be out there but we will get a chance to look over the new guys and for Broncos and us fans, we'll be one step closer to seeing what the 2019 Broncos can do. That gets my orange and blue blood pumping faster!
Rypien pulls out the win (to Win-free) with just over a minute left. 14-10 Broncos. Just teasing, it was a team win and a sloppy one at that. On the plus side, there were some signs potential from several players on both O & D. Gotta love a win - ya, I know, very low bar...
I thought Reed looked really good (he makes the team). I like how they are using Hollins all over the LB corps, he looks like a talent.
I don't think any of the other LBs flashed. Watson, Jones and Dineen did nothing. Johnson had a solid game and was the most activity of the group.
Richardson and Bausby look like solid options at corner.
I would have liked to see more of Cravens but the little we did was good. Thought overall all the back up safeties didn't do very much.
DL had a quiet night. Walker did some good things but got sat down more than I would have liked. Dre'mont Jones looks like a nightmare, he had good constant pressure.
I didn't get many reads on the OLine as it was hard to discern who was who on any given play.
QBs overall all had an average night. Lock has the look of a QB though.
Noah Fant looks huge! He is going to be a weapon for us. Other TEs didn't do much, Jeff blocked well and Troy had a couple grabs.
Bookers job is safe. Jackson and Williams did nothing, I don't see them making the team. On the other hand I really like Muhammad. He has a lot of Lindsay to his game, which could be good insurance in case Lindsay goes down. I want to see him more as a returner going forward.
Aston isn't beating out Andy.
The WRs didn't get many opportunities. I don't see any of these guys pushing the top 4. Winfree is most likely the 5th. I like Langley as the 6th so far for all his ST service but I think he may be fighting Muhammad for that spot.
We signed Riddick... our RB room doesn't have space to fart in...
Gould, wasn't it Langley who fumbled that punt and dropped a pass or two? As for the OL, Risner killed it, he's gonna be a force. I liked Muhannad and Winfree too. Fant disappointed. There were some bright spots in the slop, I want to see how they look after the 5th preseason game and who continues to shine and who doesn't.
Riddick is a good signing after that game. Booker doesn't have much competition at the moment, hopefully Riddick can challenge him.
Langley did muff the punt and missed on one pass but otherwise looked dangerous on his routes and gave max effort across the board on ST. I want to see him do it more and be consistent going forward.
And agree, another 4 games to iron out some of the wrinkles.
Evidently Sanders and Sutton got into it today and had to be broken up by Flacco and Wolfe... from what I gathered, Sanders wasn't happy with the effort/focus of the young players.
Hey guys long time no talk...Once again it's great to read all your insight about thinks Bronco!!!
Just wanted to post that I have 2 Season tickets that I won't be able use all of them if anyone is interested shoot me a text 6054847074. My wife is going in next week for a kidney transplant so selling a few would be a big help... Thanks guys and GO BRONCOS!!!
Halftime. Flacco played 1 series, looked as he should, moving the ball. Hogan after that, had about 3-4 series, looked blah. Lock is going to get a LOT of play time from what I read earlier and it looks like he will. He's played well, great fake on his 1st drive, faked out everyone. Our D has dominated, even the backups are playing well. I'm watching a Seattle feed so they aren't naming Bronco players and I don't know the numbers well enough to know who is doing what on the D... saw Reed make a few nice plays, got a sack too I think. We haven't looked spectacular against the run but acceptable for this early and the backups. The secondary has been stout, keeping the Hawks out of the air. Our ST's look like they always do... working hard to reach C-.
Our O-line push on the run wasn't great, Hawks guys were shooting through to easy. Our o-line struggled in the run game across the different teams.
Starting ILB were Johnson and Hollins. Johnson was more activity in the 2nd half. Hollins played outside in the second, doesn't look as good as Reed and Watson.
Kareem Jackson was up and down. Bausby still looks good to me.
Hogan has no arm. I've seen enough, he is just another guy at this point.
Booker looked more explosive than Riddick.
Fant caught the ball this week. He is a big target.
Watson and Reed will make this team, not so sure about Holland.
Lock showed better touch and pose this week. The safety was on Muhammed, he misses his block/chip and Lock got lit up. Unsurprising Lock was way better in the gun than under center. That two point to Winfree was into a tiny window, good pass. I still think Lock looks like a QB, Lynch not so much. I'm glad we got Lock.
DeMarcus Walker had an average start to the game I don't think he is a nose. He is looking big though. Dre'mont Jones had a better game.
Cravens had a good game.
We don't have any returners none of these guys did anything. Interesting that every time Langley was back on the kickoffs they kicked to the other guy.
I don't think much of RB Jackson, average runner, average returner and drops too many passes.
Trey Johnson had a bad game, had numerous miss tackles and got lost on several routes.
I thought Kerr was disruptive in the 4th. He is by far the biggest DL we got.
Sucks about injuries to Jano and Fort. Fort was a no contact injury, I think he has done his ACL.
Don't know why but it wasn't till late that our receivers started to get more involved. Langley, Dunbar, Brown, Benson and Winfree, either couldn't get open or weren't targeted.
Fort has torn ACL and Jano's shoulder (Fangio says he thinks it's his pectoral) will be out for the season with Fort and to be determined for Jano. Being a TE for the Broncos is a sure season ending injury waiting to happen - scratch the waiting part as they all seem to either go down early in the season or come in broken. After not having much good to say about Lock in his first outing, Fangio followed his 2nd game evaluation with more less than encouraging words. Fangio isn't coddling anyone, a 100% opposite of VJ's style. I agree with Gould that Hogan looks more like the #4 QB than the #2...
The main takeaway from last night is that the Broncos appeared improved over 2018 - but that's just our starters, the talent falls quite a bit without the 1's in. We do have a few bright spots in Dre'Mont Jones, Malik Reed, Josh Watson, Juwann Winfree and Dalton Risner at LG is killing it alongside Bolles... our left side OL is much improved. The receiver room appears to be the farthest behind (and ST's of course) along with our made of glass TE room.
Almost forgot, shout out to Dehag, good to hear from you! Sorry to hear about your wife, hope all goes well for her and you. Wish I could take some of those tickets but traveling to Denver for games is outside my financial range. Appreciate the offer and again, all the best to your wife and you... stop by more often and keep us updated, it's good to hear from you.
Klis is reporting FB Andy Janovich is feared to have a torn pectoral muscle. The time it takes to heal will likely end his season... Damn, one key player and one promising rookie lost in Seattle to injury. Broncos may be out before the regular season begins at this rate.
Actually at worst jano only misses the first 4 games of the year so they may just carry him. I believe he is off contract so if Aston is good in preseason he could be a surprise cut, interesting.
More injury from the Seattle whooping. Seems Riddick fractured his shoulder in the game and will be out the rest of the preseason and 3-4 weeks of the regular season. To be honest, I didn't like the Riddick signing but I'm trying to be positive about it and hope he can add some juice to the O (but I doubt it). Breaking his shoulder didn't improve my opinion but hey, I'm sure he wasn't thrilled with the injury either. Hoping we can escape the preseason without any more injuries.
Correct, I guess it depends on what they want to do. Do they want to keep Jano and have Aston, carry two FBs on the 53? Go no FB till Jano is healed? Cut Jano and roll with Aston? Or put Jano on the PUP, let him get healthy and reevaluate when he is ready to come back. PUP probably unlikely but all options on the table.
Lock starts the 3rd with a 3&out... SF's ball on their 30. Lock jammed his thumb in the turf on the 2nd down... maybe Hogan or Rypien comes in on the next series?
Well, 2 straight poor outings and losses. There were some bright spots though and our 1st and 2nd teams look good - except for our run game which needs work. Maybe we can snag some depth when the cuts begin. Read an article today that said Elway has his eye on some SF bubble players. We'll see. Funny, after going 9-7, 5-11 and 6-10 our last 3 seasons, I just don't get upset with another loss... just preseason I say to myself, no need to get my hopes up. Low expectations for 2019... so any improvement is a plus - a true loser outlook, LOL!
Elway made a comment at his presser yesterday about how it is good to get a up close look at other teams bubble players that may be able to help us. It was in response to a question about the benefit of doing joint practices. Won't read to much into it.
Oh, I don't see it as a season saving game changer, just interesting and if something good does come from it, we can use every little edge we can find... obviously we are talking filling depth positions, not adding to 1st string core players...unless we get lucky.
Game thoughts: Shelby Harris looks good to go and Chubb may have an awesome year at this rate.
I'm way more confident in Yiadom every week, same with Bausby.
1st string Oline run game was pretty average, pass pro was pretty good though. Flacco looks comfortable in the offense so far.
A. Johnson has been solid in the middle, not spectacular but solid. Hollis is about the same as well (I actually think he has been playing better in the middle than the outside).
Really worked the screen game today.
Lock seems to be improving week to week. I would like to see him make quicker decisions on the rollouts, several occasions he had guys open underneath that may have done something if hit earlier but he waited too long for the deep play to develop before dumping it down.
I thought Aston blocked well when on the field but he didn't seem to get many snaps, this may be also the cause of the lackluster run game.
Kerr has quietly been having a good preseason. Purcell has as well.
Booker has locked up that 3rd RB spot. None of the other guys are close.
Jamal Crater really struggled getting clean looks, always seemed to get lost in the wash. So far isn't looking like an ILB.
Did Cravens play this week? The other backup safeties did nothing.
Depth at OL is pretty bad but that is a problem across the league.
Still haven't found a return man. I'm pretty sure Winfree will be the 5th WR. No idea about whether their will be a sixth since none have had many chances or done anything in the return game.
No Muhammed this week? I wondered what happened to him?
D Watson had a few good plays. As did Holder towards the end in the run game.
Hogan wasn't as bad as I thought he was, a few sacks were definitely on him, but his Oline and receivers let him down. A bunch of his passes on the last drive were hopes and prays, Lock is better.
Unfortunately i went to the game. I don't like preseason games but the Broncos make me buy them and they are hard to resell.
Anyway, I try not to overreact during the preseason and with that in mind, here are my thoughts.
I think the defense will be great if they can stay healthy. I'm concerned about the ILs. Don' know why the GM did not address this weakness in either free agency or the draft. Also concerned about the depth, although this is a concern for the team overall. I guess, with all the sucky drafts that we had, it should not be surprising to have a depth issue.
On to the offense. Been pretty dismal so far, but hopefully, once the regular season starts and the starters are playing, some improvement will be made. Lots of positions affected by injures right now, QB, RB, FB, TE and OL. Need to get healthy and hopefully not suffer any more injuries.
Why has finding a kick/punt returner been so difficult for this team?
They waived Kerr and Dekota Watson today. Kind of surprised by both. I think Watson cost them a 5th round pick. Don't know if he had to make the team for the pick to go to the 49ers. Hope we did not waste a pick.
I am not saying this to be negative, but Rypien has looked like I expected him to look, an undrafted rookie QB. He has done a few nice things and I hear that the Broncos like him. So maybe they stash him on the practice squad and give him another year to develop and we take another look next year. I'm good with that. Hopefully we see a more polished young QB next preseason from him.
I'm surprised they let both Kerr and Watson go before week 4 of preseason (game 5). Kerr had been having a solid preseason but looks to be out played by Purcell. Get younger and free some cap space.
Watson I thought was going to be the 4th OLB, I did forget about Reed. Seems Reed and Hollins will be the backups to Miller and Chubb.
Both moves free up cap space. Maybe we target a new punter in Allen?
As for Rypien, agreed. He has more arm talent than Hogan but it is whether he can develop. From what I've seen Lock is ahead of both of them comfortably, its a bummer he got hurt.
Happy to see Bill Bowlen’s lawsuit thrown out. Not that I don’t think the ownership issue shouldn’t be decided, and fairly soon, but I didn’t see how Bill had any standing to even file the case. He’s not line to inherit any of the team assets and he isn’t involved in running the team. Seemed like a money grab on his part from the start. It will be real interesting to hear what the NFL arbiter has to say. The daughters certainly do have standing.

In addition, the Denver Broncos have traded a sixth-round draft pick to the New England Patriots in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick and cornerback Duke Dawson, (5-11, 197 pounds), who was selected by New England in the second round of the 2018 NFL draft out of Florida.
USA today has their post draft power rankings out. Broncos are ranked at 26. They think we wasted a draft on Lock when we had so many other needs to fill.
ReplyDeleteBrad, I just saw your response from way back on the 5th year option. I'm going to cut and paste some text on how it works and then my next post will be my personal comments.
ReplyDeleteEvery player selected in the first round of the NFL Draft will automatically have a Fifth-Year Option added in his contract.
ReplyDeleteThe benefit to the team is that the player can be extended for another year (yes at a higher one year amount), but no long term deal and no bonuses are involved, so it can save significant cash (not cap) in the fifth year. Again, the team can decline it. It is also not guaranteed.
That is why so many teams in the past have traded into the end of the first round, especially for QBs, because the 5th year option can be very valuable and there is no risk because it can be declined by the team.

ReplyDeleteFinally some news!! They passed out uniform numbers today. Really. That's the Broncos news for the day.
ReplyDeleteThey changed up their scouts yesterday or the day before. Klein Kubiak is gone, may be going to join dad in MN, switched one scout from one district to another and hired 1 or 2 new ones and made some promotions, here it is;
DeleteThe Broncos hired Frantzy Jourdain as their new southeast area scout and moved scout Eugene Armstrong from the southeast to the southwest region. Kubiak previously scouted the southwest area. Denver also hired Eddie Simpkins, a former personnel intern, as a scouting assistant and promoted Rob Paton and Deon Randall to college/pro scouts. Here’s a look at the team’s updated personnel/scouting staff, with their years with the team in parentheses:
John Elway: President of Football Ops./GM (2011-pres.)
Matt Russell: Director of Player Personnel (2009-pres.)
A.J. Durso: Director of Pro Personnel (2013-pres.)
Brian Stark: Director of College Scouting (2012-pres.)
Eugene Armstrong: Southwest Area Scout (2007-pres.)
Dave Bratten: College Scouting Coord./Area Scout (1997-pres.)
Scott DiStefano: Midwest Area Scout (1982-pres.)
Frantzy Jourdain: Southeast Area Scout (2019)
Darren Mougey: Western Regional Scout (2012-pres.)
Nick Schiralli: Eastern Regional Scout (2008-pres.)
Bryan Chesin: Midwest Area Scout (2014-pres.)
Jordon Dizon: Pro Scout (2015-pres.)
Patrick Walsh: Pro Scout (2016-pres.)
Rob Paton: College/Pro Scout (2017-pres.)
Deon Randall: College/Pro Scout (2017-pres.)
Eddie Simpkins: Scouting Assistant (2018-pres.)
Minicamps underway.
ReplyDeleteTitbits, Sanders recovering, Risner at LG, Jackson working at Safety.
ReplyDelete"I got so many things to worry about," Flacco said, embarking on his second-straight season of poor leadership ahead of a rookie quarterback.
ReplyDeleteFalah went down during a conditioning drill and needed a cart to leave the field.
Achilles are ligaments, really hard to do anything for them, can only stretch them so much. Maybe over work through too much running causing the injuries. Really is a freak injury.
DeleteSorry tendon.
DeleteA tear or rupture is usually the result of excessive or repetitive stress on the ankle and feet.
Darron Lee to the Chiefs :(
ReplyDeleteShane ray signed with the ravens. That is a good spot for him.
ReplyDeleteIf Ray does as well for them as Dumervile did for them, then they owe us in a big way - and I expect repayment to be made in the form of Flacco! LOL! So no pressure Joe... but yeah, pressure!
DeleteRumors Peyton is in line for the jets GM role lol.
ReplyDeleteWord is we are only looking to increase Harris pay this year. No word of an extension.
ReplyDeleteFant signed his contract.
ReplyDeleteHarris got his bump to 12 mil and a bit.
ReplyDeleteKind of mixed emotions about the raise. No doubt he earned it, but he signed a contract for what he was getting. It will be interesting to see what he gets when he hits the open market in his 30's.
DeleteHe sounded pretty happy at OTAs and was open to resigning in the future.
DeleteRIP Pat Bowlen.
ReplyDeletesad day for Broncos fans. Pat was a true NFL man and a great owner. He brought so much to the game and the organization. He will be missed. RIP Pat. (please leave your sock with Joe)
ReplyDeleteIt's 9:38pm Friday and I just found out the sad news that Pat has gone to the big ring of fame in the sky. Thank you for being such a great owner and building a team that Bronco fans can cheer more often than not. RIP Mr. Bowlen, you will always be remembered fondly by Bronco fans and respected by NFL fans everywhere.
ReplyDeleteAll I have to say is that he was the best owner in pro sports.
ReplyDeleteBest owner, will be missed. RIP Pat.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone think the ownership talk will heat up now since we officially don't have an owner anymore?
ReplyDeleteHi all. Personal note. If you didn't know, my wife of 28 years passed away on June 15,2018. Happy to say, I have found love again and am engaged to another Bronco fan. The being a Bronco fan had a huge part in us getting acquainted. Life(God) is good!
ReplyDeleteCongrats, Digger! On both the pending marriage AND her being a Bronco fan!
ReplyDeleteSign her up and get her posting on here!
Her son might possibly join.
DeleteCongrats Digger! Happy for you.
ReplyDeleteWay to go bro! Congrats, kudos and all that other stuff associated with voluntary incarceration... no, seriously, I'm happy for you!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear Digger.
ReplyDeleteI saw on the NFL network this morning that some dude named Rank says the Broncos will go 2-14 this year because we hired an old guy for a head coach instead of a youngster and because of Flacco. Sure hope we prove that dipshit wrong!
ReplyDeleteThanks Bronco buddies.
ReplyDeleteA Whole lot of nothing going with the Broncos right now. I guess that's better the Dove Valley Days off seasons. No DUIs, no wife/girlfriend beatings,no contract hold outs, maybe quiet is good!
ReplyDeleteIt is good.
DeleteMaybe someone could put up the practice schedule.
ReplyDeleteDove Valley Daze, summer, 2019 -
ReplyDeleteThe last time we visited “DOVE VALLEY DAZE”, Pat Bowlen was still with us but alas, he has gone on to that great sock drawer in the sky, where every sock is orange or blue - or both!

ReplyDeleteJohn Elway; Thank you Joe, as you know, Pat always thought of me like the son he never had and I thought of him like a father, so in a way, I think I should be the new owner.
Awesome man! You do have a talent for writing these. lol.
ReplyDeleteWhat you were really describing is the upcoming courtroom scene, not the locker room meeting!!
Thanks Head, glad you liked it... not much Broncos news for a while now, so I figured I'd make some shit up.
DeleteHaha 1st this are classic.
DeleteGlad you enjoyed it Gould.
DeleteESPN says we have the second worst offense in the league this year,so we have that going for us because ESPN is NEVER right!
ReplyDeleteWe are young, unproven and our QB is Flacco. This prediction doesn't surprise me but we all can agree we think they are much better than that.
DeletePhillip Lindsay says he's ready to go and is 100%. I'm glad he's recovered so quickly.
ReplyDeleteTraining camp begins tomorrow, I'm ready for it. Maybe we'll start getting more Bronco news.
ReplyDeleteThat will be awesome! Anyone going to be at training camp this year?
DeleteTodd Davis was carried off the field on first day of camp with a calf injury. He is having an MRI done to determine the extent of the injury... wow, 1st day...
ReplyDeletePartial calf tear, 3-4 weeks, ouch not a great start. Will give one of the young guys an opportunity to shine tough.
DeleteThey must have great depth at inside linebacker, otherwise the GM would have addressed such a glaring weakness in free agency or the draft.
DeleteWent to the second practice on last Friday. My observations.
ReplyDeleteSurprised at the small crowd of fans and the radio guys said that there were even less fans at the first practice.
Another injury - not a good omen, hope it's just minor.
ReplyDeleteDenver offensive lineman Chaz Green was carted off Monday, according to The Athletic’s Nicki Jhabvala. It’s unclear what happened to Green.
Thanks, OBF, I always like to hear the unfiltered views of people who were there.
ReplyDeleteThanks OBF, love the insight.
ReplyDeleteInteresting to note you mentioned Lock is side-arming the ball. From the videos put out by the club you can see that his release isn't at the high point, it is a long way out from over the shoulder. Easy to see when you compare it to flaccos'. I hope that doesn't became an issue down the line.
Gould, I probably should not have said side armed. It was just as you said, a lower release point.
DeleteYeah I wonder if that is just his style, but it isn't prototypical. Just something to note for the future.
DeleteAlso gives a bit more context to that Fanigo quote about he is a pitcher that doesn't know how to pitch yet. I do hope they don't spend ages trying to 'fix' him. Just let him play and get better.
Went to Broncos practice again today. Full pads today, so a little more intense. Not a lot of hitting but more than in just shorts.
ReplyDeleteFirst the positives.
Looking forward to the 1st preseason game.
Thanks for the insight OBF. Love it.
DeleteThanks,OBF. Sounds real familiar to last year team, very unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteAt least 5 fumbled snaps, wow. anyone thing stand out as the reason, or any one person?
3 were between MCGovern and Flaco of which I think 2 were shotgun. Seemed like problems with center sometimes and with QB sometimes.
DeleteYeah sounds like McGovern still learning how to play center.
DeleteHaha. Thanks 1st for Dove Vally Daze.
ReplyDeleteTY OBF for training camp news.
Preseason games begin tonight for the Broncos - sorta... Not many of the starters will be out there but we will get a chance to look over the new guys and for Broncos and us fans, we'll be one step closer to seeing what the 2019 Broncos can do. That gets my orange and blue blood pumping faster!
ReplyDeleteAre you ready for some football?
ReplyDeleteFirst series by both teams over, not much but that's expected.
ReplyDeleteTD Broncos! Nice steady drive 7-0 Broncos.
ReplyDeletePass or run? I’m Not near a tv tonight.
ReplyDeleteFir e up ESPN on my phone. Run by Muhammad
DeleteSo far the D is looking good despite having the backups in... well, backups for the Birds too, but still...
ReplyDelete1st qtr over, our D still ahead of their O. Our run game looks decent, steady. A few dropped passes from Hogan, Fangio won't like that.
ReplyDeleteLock's 1st 2 passes were unimpressive... nerves (I hope).
ReplyDeleteWow! That was not a good pass. Pick 6 on the goal line. That turns a game around in a hurry.
ReplyDeleteTD Birds at the half 7-7.
ReplyDeleteFG Birds, 10-7... our D is slacking since the middle of the 2nd qtr. I'm wondering if Rypien will get some playing time.
ReplyDeleteRypien pulls out the win (to Win-free) with just over a minute left. 14-10 Broncos. Just teasing, it was a team win and a sloppy one at that. On the plus side, there were some signs potential from several players on both O & D. Gotta love a win - ya, I know, very low bar...
ReplyDeleteRe-watched the game last night, some thoughts.
ReplyDeleteI thought Reed looked really good (he makes the team).
ReplyDeleteGould, wasn't it Langley who fumbled that punt and dropped a pass or two? As for the OL, Risner killed it, he's gonna be a force. I liked Muhannad and Winfree too. Fant disappointed. There were some bright spots in the slop, I want to see how they look after the 5th preseason game and who continues to shine and who doesn't.
Forgot to mention McKnight, he was decent on returns. Ih and Reed, he does look good.
DeleteOh not "Ih" (what is that like a backward "Hi")?
DeleteRiddick is a good signing after that game. Booker doesn't have much competition at the moment, hopefully Riddick can challenge him.
DeleteLangley did muff the punt and missed on one pass but otherwise looked dangerous on his routes and gave max effort across the board on ST. I want to see him do it more and be consistent going forward.
And agree, another 4 games to iron out some of the wrinkles.
Billy Winn placed on IR today so he's out for the season. Really bad luck.
ReplyDeleteThat about has to be it for Billy Winn. Seems like a good guy who played well for a number of years then turned to glass.
ReplyDeleteEvidently Sanders and Sutton got into it today and had to be broken up by Flacco and Wolfe... from what I gathered, Sanders wasn't happy with the effort/focus of the young players.
ReplyDeleteGood for Sanders. It's great to see a little fire on offense.
ReplyDeleteSanders is a vet, this is the reason we kept him around, to give the young players a kick in the bum and to stay accountable.
ReplyDeleteAlso Champ's hall speech was good.
Hey guys long time no talk...Once again it's great to read all your insight about thinks Bronco!!!
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to post that I have 2 Season tickets that I won't be able use all of them if anyone is interested shoot me a text 6054847074. My wife is going in next week for a kidney transplant so selling a few would be a big help... Thanks guys and GO BRONCOS!!!
Broncos score FG on 1st drive - Freeman had a great 50yd tun on 3rd & 1 to get us down there - couldn't punch it in though. 3-0 Broncos.
ReplyDelete50yd tun? ummm no, try run...
DeleteEnd of 1st qtr, 3-0 still. Broncos moving the ball better than Hawks, our D looking good, O sputtering but but still moving.
DeleteLock in...
ReplyDeleteGoing for 4th & 1 for the 3rd time tonight... maybe 2nd... no, I think it's 3rd time, 1 good, 1 not, let's see how #3 goes.
ReplyDeleteLock fakes the handoff and makes the 1st!
DeleteNice drive by Lock, he looks better this week. FG made, Broncos 6-0.
DeleteGuys, thanks for letting me get a few posts in without interruption.
ReplyDeleteHawks score a FG on a very flagged drive. 6-3 Broncos.
DeleteHalftime.
DeletePax set to start 2nd half foe Hawks... smile!
DeletePax drives for 3... 6-3 Broncos.
DeleteOops meant 6-6 tie.
DeleteGuess my man Rypien is gonna have to come in and pull out our 2nd win! ;)
DeleteTD Hawks... Broncos looking sloppy on that drive 13-6 Hawks.
DeleteTime for Rypien to come in and make another 4th qtr win.
DeleteLock sacked for a safety... Hawks 15-6... we's starting to suck...
DeleteEnd of 3rd, Pax driving again, Broncos scrambling like a Chinese fire drill on D... I think we gonna get scored on again.
ReplyDeletePax runs in a TD... 22-6 Hawks and boy do we need work!
DeleteTD pass Lock to Stevens? 2 pt conversion good, 22-14 Hawks with 3:09 remaining.
DeleteD stops them, 2:49 left, we get the ball on the 24...
DeleteLock tosses INT with 2:01 left... we lose.
ReplyDeleteOut O-line still weak - ya I know, backups and cuts in there but still -
DeleteMay have one more shot.
DeleteWe get the ball back with 15 seconds and no TOs... ya we got this one...
ReplyDeleteOh well
DeleteOur 1's beat their 1's so that helps...
DeleteLindsay, Royce and Patrick look good.
ReplyDeleteOur O-line push on the run wasn't great, Hawks guys were shooting through to easy.
ReplyDeleteThe main takeaway from last night is that the Broncos appeared improved over 2018 - but that's just our starters, the talent falls quite a bit without the 1's in.
DeleteKlis is reporting FB Andy Janovich is feared to have a torn pectoral muscle. The time it takes to heal will likely end his season... Damn, one key player and one promising rookie lost in Seattle to injury. Broncos may be out before the regular season begins at this rate.
DeleteGood news, Jano's pectoral is only strained, NOT torn. He is expected to be out 6-8 weeks.
DeleteGood thing they brought in the other Fullback - even if I cant remember his name!
ReplyDeleteAshton I believe. Looks like he will make the team and jano to pup.
DeleteAston.
DeleteActually at worst jano only misses the first 4 games of the year so they may just carry him.
ReplyDeleteSucks for him. He was here competing with Booker, if he is hurt I don't see him making the team.
DeleteHolland got waived. I didn't see him making the team with Reed here.
ReplyDeleteOther interesting notes. Lock took all the reps with the twos. Seems Hogan may have been demoted.
DeleteBut even more interesting is Jamal Carter playing ILB. He has been real quiet at Safety so far this preseason, I wonder how he goes.
gould, if Jano goes on PUP, he has to miss the first 6 weeks of the season.
ReplyDeleteCorrect, I guess it depends on what they want to do.
DeleteHey dhag.
ReplyDeleteThanks for game info 1st
Yiadom INTs Jimmy G on nice pass rush by Chubb, Flacco moves to 12, McMoney puts up 3; 3-0 Broncos.
ReplyDeleteD stops JG, we get the ball back on the 25. Nice work by Harris and Chubb.
ReplyDeleteFlacco moves it to the 45 but stalls, we punt.
ReplyDeleteShelby Harris is tearing it up so far, lots of disruption!
ReplyDeletePenalty wipes out big Sanders play, we punt to EZ, SF ball on 25.
ReplyDeleteOur D has been excellent stopping the pass, not so much on the run, but not bad. If we can clean that up a bit, our D will be AWSOME!
ReplyDeleteChubb strips the ball, forces a punt.
ReplyDeleteLock in at QB...
ReplyDeleteLock moves to the 15, Mc comes in for the FG; 6-0 Broncos
ReplyDeleteOur run, game hasn't broke any big runs, longest is about 6 yds so far, mostly 1-2yds or losses.
ReplyDeleteSF driving to our 25, mostly runs that we are having trouble stopping. SF kicks a 42 yder,; 6-3 Broncos.
ReplyDeleteOur weaknesses are kick returns, stopping or making them and stopping runs.
ReplyDelete2 min warning.
ReplyDeleteMc comes in for a 52yd FG; 9-3 Broncos
ReplyDeleteLock starts the 3rd with a 3&out... SF's ball on their 30. Lock jammed his thumb in the turf on the 2nd down... maybe Hogan or Rypien comes in on the next series?
ReplyDeleteFant done for the night with a foot injury... why can't our TEs stay healthy?
ReplyDeleteD giving up chunks now... 2 runs and a pass.
ReplyDeleteAnother big chunk run for 30 and a TD; SF 10-9
ReplyDeleteHogan in, Lock in the locker for x-rays.
ReplyDeleteWe still can't run the ball...
ReplyDeleteHogan sucks... sacked. We punt.
ReplyDeleteOur run game has been unimpressive all preseason.. hope we get our blocking going before the season begins.
ReplyDeleteSF drives to our 1 on big runs, scores; 17-9 SF. Our D really drops off after the 1s and 2s are out.
ReplyDeleteI've seen enough of Hogan, bring in Rypien.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteYeah our 3rds on D ain't very good.
ReplyDeleteOur Oline depth is pretty bad as well.
Hogan fails to get in SF territory - AGAIN... can we see Rypien already?
ReplyDeleteSF driving again... our D 3s and 4s suck...
ReplyDeleteDakota pancakes the FB for a sack... he's had a good night.
ReplyDeleteJust under 7 minutes left... if Hogan is going to come out of his coma, now would be a good time.
ReplyDeleteWe have the ball around our 15... not hopeful.
ReplyDeleteWilliams tips the pass that hit him in his hands, SF ball on our 10... we getin scored on more than a Kardashian..
ReplyDeleteTD SF; 24-9... we gotta do better or suck again.
ReplyDeleteHogan sacked for the 3rd or 4th time... he's good at that!
ReplyDeleteHogan runs for 24 and a RD after SF fumble... he still sucks. Will we go for 2? LOL!
ReplyDeleteGot some points back but Hogan been bad.
ReplyDeleteAt least reports Lock's hand is ok, X-rays were negative.
Goods news on Lock... he should move up to #2 on the depth chart, Hogan should go to #4.
Delete2 pt try looks pathetic... 24-15 SF with 2:15 left.
ReplyDeleteHogan makes a lousy QB but he may have a career as a crash dummy...
ReplyDeleteWell, 2 straight poor outings and losses.
ReplyDeleteElway made a comment at his presser yesterday about how it is good to get a up close look at other teams bubble players that may be able to help us. It was in response to a question about the benefit of doing joint practices. Won't read to much into it.
DeleteOh, I don't see it as a season saving game changer, just interesting and if something good does come from it, we can use every little edge we can find... obviously we are talking filling depth positions, not adding to 1st string core players...unless we get lucky.
DeleteGame thoughts:
ReplyDeleteShelby Harris looks good to go and Chubb may have an awesome year at this rate.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I try not to overreact during the preseason and with that in mind, here are my thoughts.
Just announced during the game that Luck has retired! WOW! Colts fans must be shocked.
ReplyDeleteYep real stunner. Reckon he will take a year off get healthy and come back?
DeleteWatched the game again.
ReplyDeleteI really like Muhammad, I think he will be the 4th RB. The others are just JAGs.
Aston is solid.
Hogan has no arm but can run.
DeMarcus Walker, Purcell, A Johnson, D Watson all played well. Hollins did some good things too. Kerr was solid.
Think our depth on D isn't to bad, it is worse on O.
Still no idea on returned/6th receiver.
Didn't see much out of Rypien, had a few solid passes and then some real bad ones.
The 3rd and 4th string Corners and Safeties can all go.
They waived Kerr and Dekota Watson today. Kind of surprised by both. I think Watson cost them a 5th round pick. Don't know if he had to make the team for the pick to go to the 49ers. Hope we did not waste a pick.
ReplyDeleteI am not saying this to be negative, but Rypien has looked like I expected him to look, an undrafted rookie QB. He has done a few nice things and I hear that the Broncos like him. So maybe they stash him on the practice squad and give him another year to develop and we take another look next year. I'm good with that. Hopefully we see a more polished young QB next preseason from him.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised they let both Kerr and Watson go before week 4 of preseason (game 5). Kerr had been having a solid preseason but looks to be out played by Purcell. Get younger and free some cap space.
ReplyDeleteWatson I thought was going to be the 4th OLB, I did forget about Reed.
Also Nick Williams got cut. He hadn't got many chances this preseason. None of the receivers after the top 4 have really been standing out.
DeleteHappy to see Bill Bowlen’s lawsuit thrown out.
ReplyDeleteSo far Denver has cut;
ReplyDelete1. DB Su’a Cravens (via)
2. G Don Barclay (via)
3. WR Brendan Langley (via)
4. CB Rashard Causey (via)
5. OL Jake Brendel (via)
6. OL Adam Bisnowaty (via)
7. RB David Williams (via)
8. WR Steven Dunbar (via)
9. OT Chaz Green (via)
3 more cuts added;
Delete10. CB Linden Stephens (via)
11. OLB Dadi Nicolas (via)
12. C Ryan Crozier (via)
Broncos cut Kevin hogan
ReplyDeleteInteresting strategy, cut both of your backup QB’s. We knew Hogan was no hero, but wow!
ReplyDeleteI've lost track of all the changes in the last day. Think there is 6 new players?
ReplyDeleteHere are the ones I see from the last several days:
ReplyDeleteQB Brandon Allen
FB/TE Andrew Beck
G/C Corey Levin
WR Diontae Spencer
CB Duke Dawson
We also signed LBs Keishawn Bierria and Corey Nelson.
DeleteAnd cornerback Davontae Harris
ReplyDeleteSo, I think it is 7 players that have not been in any Broncos OTAs, training camp or preseason this year.
ReplyDeleteShows our lack of depth due to all of the sucky drafts.
Hopefully the additions will help.
We are going to need a new post for game 1.
ReplyDelete
