DENVER BRONCOS TRUE FANS BLOG
This Blog is for real Bronco Fans to chat about our favorite team and discuss all things Bronco (This blog was created by Dhag, but Broncobrad kicked him to the curb and has taken it over)Dhag still administrators power on this blog and can kick back!!!
We start the week as 6.5 point underdogs at home against the Chargers. So they're saying we have a chance!
ReplyDeleteBroncos set a new record in the Raiders game - it was the lowest rated MNF game in history. Thanks VJ.
ReplyDeleteWho ever scheduled both of those teams on Monday night should probably be fired. Of course when it was scheduled, Gruden hadn't went into tank mode yet and Denver didn't look near as bad on paper as they turned out to be.
DeleteI saw an article blaming this season's woes on all the injuries. Maybe, but the O line played much better after the injuries and Keenum didn't play worth shit, injured or not.
Coaching list: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001004510/article/nfl-head-coach-candidates-names-to-know-for-this-hiring-cycle
ReplyDeleteMoney quote from that article:
DeleteNumerous NFL executives and other sources familiar with coaching searches have said in recent weeks they feel this is the thinnest pool of candidates in years, if not decades.
Ouch. Doesn't sound like any help coming from finding a new coach.
Double down - no coaches, no QBs. We are sooooo skeeerooooed!
DeleteWho would give PFM a shot at HC? Zero coaching experience but I'd have to consider it if by some very remote chance he was considered. On 2nd thought, didn't people say he was a lousy mentor as a QB? Just some desperation thinking...
ReplyDeleteDesperation seems appropriate!
ReplyDeleteDid you see Mecklenburg’s Facebook post about VJ? Brutal. I couldn’t figure out how to copy it from Facebook or I would post it here.

"Wow, that was not what I expected from the Broncos against the Raiders. If they have done anything this year for Vance Joseph they have competed. To not show up for a Monday night game against a division opponent and historical rival is inexcusable. This was the Broncos 15th game of the year and they still are making football 101 mistakes. Covering receivers on a run play and losing contain for a long touchdown. Celebrating on the great punt that got tapped back on the goal line instead of picking up the ball so the Raiders don't pick it up and run for a record setting touchdown. Dropped passes, penalties, poor effort, and poor play all around. The play where Denver had too many men on the field on a fourth down run where Lindsay had broke through for a big play is a good example of the Broncos lack of urgency in the game. Denver had too many men because the player leaving the field decided to walk the last five yards. The attitude was worse than in the Jets loss in my mind because they should have learned their lesson from that beating by a less talented team. As much as I value consistency in coaching, their is no value in consistency of poor coaching. I am now officially on the fire Vance Joseph bandwagon."
May have to go old school to find a HC, bring back the shanny!
ReplyDeleteI'd go along with that... too bad we didn't do it last year when Shanny could have got Cousins to come with him at a discounted price, as was reported by Rapoport.
Deletethe thought was to bring Kubiak as OC, Phillips as DC and have Dennison back as OL coach if Shanny came back. I don’t know how Wade coming back would have been possible since he was under contract with the Rams. It would be a great scenario.
DeleteThere are rumors that Adam Gase may get fired in Miami. Would anyone be on board with him being our headcoach?
ReplyDeleteHe was probably one of the best OC’s we have had over the years. I believe he was our OC when we lost to Seattle in the SB.
Not sure how I would feel about that. Just saw that report and thought I would bring it up.
I have seen other reports suggesting we should make Lincoln Riley, a college coach, an offer. I am not in favor of a college coach jumping to the NFL. They are rarely if ever successful.
I added a picture that i saw in a Broncos facebook group. I thpught it was funny as hell.
ReplyDeleteLol! Crybaby Phyllis.
DeleteI thought everyone on here would enjoy that picture
DeleteI have seen several times now of reports suggesting we should trade for Matthew Stafford. Not sure we have the cap space to absorb his salary, but what do you guys think? Would you do it?
ReplyDeleteWhy? So we can trade places with Detroit? If the Lions are willing to trade him, what would be the cost and wouldn't it be like the Bears trading for Cutler? Yes he would be an improvement over our gunslinger but if he has never been able to carry DET, I don't see him as the answer in DEN. If we are going to give up a bunch of picks to get him, why not just use those picks to move up in the 2019 draft or the 2020 draft and get a kid on a rookie salary for 5 years? There will be all kinds of talk and scenarios of who we should get and Elway always seems to chose something no one has thought of. I expect that to happen again, so wait for the surprise - whatever it is. Elway is a car salesman so he always goes for a deal that favors the house. I suspect we either stay with Kee to finish his contract in 2019 or if their is a QB in this year's draft that we like and we wind up within striking range getting him without selling our future for the next decade, then that's what we will do. The biggest piece to the puzzle right now is getting the right HC. Whoever that is will be a big part of what we decide to do at QB.
DeleteIm not advocating for it, but I will say it is Detroit. They have never placed an emphasis on putting a competitive product on the field. Their defense is usually horrible. They have done nothing since Megatron retired. I guess the Ford family is happy putting a shit product on the field year after year.
DeleteI even heard that their first year coach, Matt Patricia, shows up late to team meetings. What kind of shit is that?
I suspect JE will take his time. It won't make any difference in how aggressive he is in going after a new HC that he wants. As we and the media have talked about, the HC options aren't spectacular this year so he'll do some thinking before jumping. For all we know, he may just decide to put some fresh crotch spray and lipstick on the VJina and send her out to the street for another go-round.
ReplyDeleteI think the fan base would revolt if he did that.
ReplyDeleteand only you could come up with fresh crotch spray and lipstick hahahaha
ReplyDeleteOr as Jeff Dunham’s puppet Walter would say “ get your shit and get!”
ReplyDeleteA little crotch spay and send her back out’. Lol. New nickname for VJ - Fabreeze!
From the sounds of it, Shaq Barrett wants to start and will look for someplace that will give him the opportunity.
ReplyDeletewell I have seen Lincoln Riley’s name tossed around as a head coach for us. After watching how he had Oklahoma prepared to start this game tonight, no thanks. I relaize it is Alabama, but it is your job as coach to have your team ready to go. To come out looking that flat in this type of game is not acceptable when you are a coach of a premier school in college football
ReplyDeleteGo Broncos?? Hard not to root for kicking the chargers butt’s but I’d also like to see a better position.
ReplyDeleteBetter draft position.
ReplyDeleteso we try to do an onside kick to start the game and it doesn’t work. what a terrific way to kick off Joseph’s last game.
ReplyDeleteRoby already with the holding penalty
ReplyDeleteYadom with the pick!
ReplyDeletelooks like the defense came to play today
Yiadom
ReplyDeleteEither way, good pick!
ReplyDeleteand Keenum doing his best Spaceballs impersonation and misfires on third down. Gotta punt.
ReplyDeleteBrowns and Bengals playing tough today
ReplyDelete3 and out. big surprise
ReplyDeletePretty good tryout for our punter this year. He’s done ok.
ReplyDeleteassuming his leg isnt ready to fall off yet
Deletepick by Parks!
ReplyDeleteCase’s first pass, incomplete. 3-7 so far for our gunslinger
ReplyDeleteholding followed by an incomplete pass
ReplyDeleteincomplete. time to punt
ReplyDeletePretty sloppy game on both sides so far.
ReplyDeletecase’s line 4-10 for 14 yards and 8 yards rushing in three posessions.
ReplyDeletewe hold em, get good field
ReplyDeleteposition and get a block in the back call.
And another punt.
ReplyDeletedefense is definitely going to have to pull this one out for us. offense forgot to show up
ReplyDeletewe held em. im sure this will be a three and out
ReplyDeleteWorse, TD called back by penalty.
ReplyDeleteSo Booker runs 54 yards for a touchdown and we have two holding penalties that negate the TD.
ReplyDeleteand a second straight holding penalty by Bolles has us sitting at 1st and 30
ReplyDeleteand Freeman fumbles and gets returned for a TD against us. Yeah that about sums up this season
ReplyDeleteRooting for draft pick placement now.
ReplyDeleteman i just can’t even believe it. we had gotten a first down. got a penalty that backed us up and were on the verge of getting a first down. Booker scores, we have two holding calls, one declined which negate the TD. We have another holding call in the next play to put us at 1st and 30 and the very next play fumble and give up a score. Just a complete what the fuck just happened.
ReplyDeletesorry Case threw a pick
ReplyDeletemustered a fg out of that. I just can’t take much more
ReplyDeleteyou guys must have decided not to watch
ReplyDeleteYes! Another fumble near the endzone!
ReplyDeleteCBS can lick my nutz. They didn't air it here in Utah, & still won't switch off the queefs game
ReplyDeleteChargers run back the 2 point attempt, lololol
ReplyDeleteHowdy guys... I see we're sucking for the draft... may pick up a few slots today.
ReplyDeleteIf Mangina had any hopes of staying on after today, those hopes have been dashed to tiny bits and then chewed up into smaller pieces, spit back out into a mortar to be ground again up by a pestle.
DeleteDo we have an atom smasher handy?
DeleteMiller with the strip sack fumble recovery hattrick!
ReplyDeleteHell even Case’s completed passes go for losses.
ReplyDeleteThe fat lady is reving up her vocal chords as we speak
ReplyDeleteFive straight pass attempts yeilds -2 yards. That’s what you look for out of a signal caller.
ReplyDeleteOur Poo season and poo team comes to an end.
ReplyDeleteTime to find a HC and a QB.
I am going to make a very dramatic but very intense statement. Vance Joseph sapped the fun out of watching my team that I haved for over 34 years. This was actually worse for me than the McDaniels era. This was just painful to watch. I can’t point to really anything that he brought to this organization that will leave a postive impact.
ReplyDeleteIt really saddens me.
I couldnt resist changing the photo. I grabbed a few pictures and through them together quickly.
ReplyDeleteI had to leave at half time yesterday to take the grand kids back home; I think I'm glad I did.
ReplyDeleteSome random thoughts after a horribly depressing year:
I just don't see any way to respectability for several years.
We desperately need a franchise QB, none in sight.
We desperately need an experienced, innovative, leader for a head coach, none in sight.
We desperately need experienced, talented offensive linemen; we might be able to get in trade.
We desperately need some another experienced, talented Corner back.
We need a real tight end or two.
That is too many needs to fix in one off season. We aren't going to pick high enough to get much certain help in the draft, even if Elway does as well in this draft as he did last year. We don’t have enough cap space to buy all of those players and buying impact talent doesn’t seem to have worked well for us lately, especially with offensive linemen.
So what is the answer? Would a MLB style rebuild by trading all of our best players to stock pile high draft picks for the next several years and build through the draft work? If we could acquire multiple first round picks this year and next by maximizing value in our current talent ( Harris? Miller? Peko?), could we get back to respectability quicker?
There is no sure thing, franchise QB (if there is such a thing) in this year’s draft. I guess we could stock up on skill players and linemen and have them start developing while we waste another year with Keenum. That should get us a high enough draft the next year to make a run at that year’s sure thing QB.
Desperate times call for desperate measures, and we are desperate!
It’s official! Joseph is gone.
ReplyDeleteSo Miami has fired Adam Gase. Would you hire him? I asked that the other day but it got lost in the shuffle of some other comments.
ReplyDeleteHe coordinated the best offense in NFL history when he was here as Fox’s OC. He struggled in Miami because Tannehill sucks. We will struggle some too till we improve our oline and find a better QB.
But perhaps we hire him and Kubes/Tubes comes down from the suite as his OC. Bring in Greg Williams as DC. Pretty good coaching staff in my opinion.
Add Wilkes and Lewis to the growing list (and Gase as noted above).
ReplyDeleteRaiders hire Mayock as GM. One less mouth to drown out fuckin Mel Kyper on draft weekend.
ReplyDeleteWe have requested to interview Steelers Oline coach Mike Munchak and Pats DC Flores.
ReplyDeleteI think I like Munchak better of those two. Too many of Bellicheats assistants flame out fairly quickly. Munchak has some experience as a head coach and I really don’t think we need to go through the head coach learning curve again.
DeleteBears defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has also been put on the Bronco's HC list.
DeleteAlso mentioned but no official statement is John Harbaugh and Mike Shanahan...
DeleteFangio as HC sounds good to me.
DeleteYeah I have no desire to revisit the Patriots coaching tree, especially considering he is another one year coordinator. Matt Patricia was the DC last year before going to Detroit and they were a hot mess. Not to mention that if you go to the Patriots website, he doesn’t even carry the DC title. He is DL coach. Screw that.

Of all the names listed, only two(Peko and maybe Paradis) really rise above role player on a good team. Not that it won't hurt to lose some of them, but the vast majority seem immanently replaceable and some for much less money.
DeleteHead, that's true but there is a lot which means the team will have to fill quote a few. The 2019 Broncos won't look the same but as long as we improve even just a little on each player we lose, we'll be better by a lot when it comes to wins. I say this because of all the close games we lost this year... maybe getting slightly better will improve our record a lot? A new HC should be good for 3-4 wins alone! Hahaha!
Deletequite a few - not quote a few.
DeleteI would like the top 7 UFAs back at a decent price. If they want to much money, let them go. One thing for certain, if we pay Roby top CB money, I'll be pissed.
Delete2019 Bronco opponents released;

Kansas City Chiefs
Los Angeles Chargers
Oakland Raiders
Jacksonville Jaguars

Chicago Bears
Detroit Lions

Away:
Kansas City Chiefs

Minnesota Vikings
Green Bay Packers

Looks like 2019 isn't going to be a fluff schedule either - although a lot depends on what some of those teams do to get better.
DeleteInteresting in johns preso, said no to Gase flat out. Said kubes will be around and probably on staff, so the next HC probably needs to work with him. Said no to shanny at this time, was a little bit more of an opening than Gase. I’d say shanny is the fallback plan. Also didn’t rule out trading picks for a coach to put that scenario in play for the ravens HC.
ReplyDeleteAlso he didn’t want to go into the problems/mistakes both he and Vance made. Wanted to keep that private/not throw Vance under the bus maybe. The media tried several times to get him to answer it but basically said we know the problem, now focusing on the solutions.
Also interesting Ellis basically said at the start he is out of it and John is making the decision, as in its all on John. I wonder if that news story not to long a go was John angling to have complete control over this search? Either way the next guy will be Elways dude.
Wonder who the Rooney rule candidate will be. Haven't seen anyone mentioned yet that checks off that box. Wonder if they would interview Lewis? I don't know what his issues were in Cincy, but he seemed to always at least put a competitive team on the field.
ReplyDeleteLewis is Jeff Fisher or John Fox, decent coach but can’t put his team over the top.
DeleteSpeaking of Fox, it seems wherever he has gone, those teams end up with a great D. I wonder if he'd take a DC job? Probably not with Denver though. I think he and JE don't play well together.
DeleteReports we will interview Pagano as well.
ReplyDeleteZac Taylor of the Rams will be interviewed by the Broncos as well per reports.
DeleteAdd McCarthy to the HC list per reports.
DeleteHas anyone heard any rumblings about why Shane Ray was pretty much abandoned this year? I know he had been hurt, but who Cheerios did he piss in?
ReplyDeleteHe's running his mouth to the press about how he'll start on the next team he's on and how nice it will be to be appreciated.
I don't know, but guessing that it's an injury & guaranteed money thing
DeleteThere are rumors that Elway will force Kubiak as OC on the new head coach. Hope these rumors are false. I love Kubes, but if the new HC cannot be empowered to hire his own assistants, then you might not get a strong enough HC to be any better than VJ.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteI saw one of the local sports hacks tweet this out yesterday:
ReplyDeleteYou could easily make the case that the Broncos head into the offseason as the most unsettled franchise in pro football.
No owner
No end in sight to ownership family infighting
No stadium sponsor
Disconnected management
No coach
No QB
All true statements. Right now it feels like he could have added "no chance in 2019" to his list.
DeleteSomeone asked who the Rooney Rule candidate will be. It is Patriots DC Flores. He is black.
ReplyDeleteRay hadn’t produced much on the field when he saw action in the four years he has been here.
ReplyDeleteSomeone asked former coach Joseph about both Ray and Cravens a week or two ago as well as Walker. His response was basically we have too much depth at their spots. I think it is garbage, but that was the response he gave.
Think we answered our own question. Ray turned himself into a headache. I bet he wasn't happy we drafted Chubb. That Barrett got more snaps then him and then finally Holland starting over him.
DeleteBut Ray needs to realise he didn't produce and isn't contracted with us long term. Barrett we may work something out with, Holland is here next year. We had already moved on. Ray just wasn't good enough to change that.
Good luck where ever he lands.
Cravens didn't play since we needed more safeties that could play corner than a safety that plays LB. I'd see him playing more next year.
Chris Harris has been medically cleared
ReplyDeleteHere’s a few excerpts from Chris Harris Jr;
ReplyDelete”I think, after the Super Bowl, we just kind of got stagnant. We haven't evolved," Harris said Monday, via The Denver Post's Sean Keeler. "So we've got to figure out how we can evolve on offense, defense, special teams, everything. ... In terms of the NFL, we're behind right now.”
"I think everybody who won the Super Bowl is pretty much (on) a non-guaranteed contract now," Harris said. "So I expect everybody to be gone, really. I expect to probably have two or three vets on the team and I think we'll keep moving like that. That's how I see it. I see it as a big rebuild coming on. I see a big tidal wave coming."
Elway and Ellis said in their presser that they don’t like the word “rebuild” because they want to be competitive each and every year - so they’re going with just “build” - sounds a lot like “evolve” to me… and let’s get it right this time. We did it when JE first rejoined the Broncos in 2011, we CAN do it again!
Was pretty interesting how Elway looked at it/explained it. The idea that a rebuild is what the Raiders are doing (giving up). Take a few bad years to rebuild. Elway more wants to retool and be competitive every year. The goal each season is playoffs. Hard to focus on rebuilding if that is the case. I'm glad Elway is so focused on winning and wanting to win. Hopefully means he will find a bloody QB!
Deletehopefully not a bloody one. That would signify he is probably dead.
DeleteWith Emmanuel Sanders likely out for good - at least for the Broncos, coupled with the trade of DT, WR will be another gap the team will need to fill. Sanders' doctor stated "Surgery and not only this season done but unlikely to be ready for start of 2019. Could be back for later part of next season." So, as much as I love Heman-uel, I seriously doubt we'll see him play for the Broncos again, given his age, injury and contract. Sad, what a warrior!
ReplyDeleteSutton, Hamilton and Patrick is a good place to start. Hopefully they can hold the fort till Sanders is healthy. I don't think we move on from him straight away. Is a decent character and leader for us.
DeleteSanders is already proclaiming he will be ready for week 1. I think he will be. The man is determined.
DeleteHaving said that his cap hit is 13 mil next season. Dead cap is 2.6 mil. May need to take a pay cut?
DeleteHe produces. I don’t think that is a bad salary for a No 1 WR with his numbers.
DeleteI liked him at 10 mil, 13 mil is a little on the high side though but I agree, he comes to play.
DeleteI did see someone suggest maybe Roby is better suited for safety. Maybe that is an option for him. Not sure he would sign to stay on at a different position though.
ReplyDeleteI really liked what I saw from Yiadom the last few weeks. I think he could be good
Roby like Ray is probably gone. I don't think he is going to take a cheap deal and can probably start easily elsewhere.
DeleteI do like Yiadom but we need more depth.
Seems Vic Fangio is the early favourite. I could get down with that.
ReplyDeleteSo which of the Head Coach Candidates do you guys think will be much better than VJ, and can this coach get this team to the playoffs with the current talent?
ReplyDeleteProbably any one of them will do better, they all have good and bad points. VJ was 11-21 in his 32 games as HC for the Broncos, so the bar is set pretty low to better him.
ReplyDeleteIf Elway can find a decent QB then it will help their win total.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely think any coach can do better than Vance. Just don't think many could push us through the playoffs.
If Elway can find a decent QB!!!!
DeleteWhat a novel idea.
Atwater, Champ, Lynch and Law (if you want to claim him) with Bowlen made it to the 15 finalists for HoF.
ReplyDeleteBroncos signed WR Chad Hansen, QB Garrett Grayson, LB Alexander Johnson, WR Fred Brown, OG Austin Schlottmann, RB Khalfani Muhammad, DE Caushaud Lyons, CB Linden Stephens, OL Andreas Knappe, and S Shamarko Thomas to reserve/future contracts.
ReplyDeleteHansen was a fourth-round pick of the Jets last year but only lasted one season with Gang Green. Grayson was a 2015 third-round pick of the Saints.
B1st VJ was 11-21 because the Bronco players were 11-21. Hard to believe many coaches would have done better with dog shit at QB and many holes throughout the roster.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a VJ fan, just think that many fans blame him for all of the problems the last 2 years. We will see.
Lot's of blame to go around, I don't believe anyone has said it was entirely on VJ. It was VJ, JE, players, CK, OL, TE, STs, D, injuries, penalties, bad luck, bad calls... tons of reasons but hey, there is no denying VJ was one of the reasons and a big one. I really don't see anything he contributed that can't be easily replaced... and it would be silly to stick with a coach who had zero HC experience, went 11-21 when given a chance. it's the NFL, happens all the time. Hell we fired Fox after going 8-8, 13-3, 13-3 and 12-4. VJina was lousy.
DeleteI'm not a VJ fan or even a Elway as a GM fan. I am a Bronco fan. The Broncos have sucked lately because the o-line line sucks lately. You cannot get by with mediocre quarterbacks with a terrible offensive line.
ReplyDeleteI too am a Bronco fan. Just frustrated with the direction we are headed.
DeleteCan I add Ellis and ownership to that list. I would like to know what their vision is for the team.
DeleteJust saw a post attributed to USA Today that says Elway is “not opposed” to trading Miller this off season.
ReplyDeleteMixed feelings about that. Hard to imagine a first rate defense in Denver without him, but there is virtue in selling high. Seems to work exceptionally well for Bellicheat.
I’d think we’d want a good player or two or three or several years of first and second round picks. I don’t even know how to evaluate a trade like that!
Head, Mark Schlereth is saying the same thing, trade Von. OAK got 2 firsts and a 3rd for Mack and we've got Chubb to replace Von. I mentioned the idea on here months ago but nobody said much. JE wants big change fast and there are young players that don't even see the field because we are so deep at a few positions. I like Von a lot but he does have a big $$$ contract, he is turning 30 in March and without a doubt, trading him for shoring up weaker parts of the team isn't an idea that should be tossed off the table just because we all love the guy. If this were boxing or golf, fine but this is a TEAM sport and we need to improve the TEAM by any means that is best overall.
DeleteI’d agree if we still had depth at that position but with ray and Barrett leaving that leaves only Holland behind Chubb and Von. Starting Chubb and holland next year is a bad move. I’d keep this duo together for another year. Maybe trade Von to take a Qb in 2020. Doesn’t make our team look good to a HC without our best player.
DeletePlus you going to trust Elway to be successful in the draft to build a better overall team. Hell no.
DeleteVery stupid.
DeleteIt would be stupid.
ReplyDeleteAgreed.
DeleteFangio as head coach from a Bears blog perspective.
ReplyDeleteSome interesting comments and perspective.
https://www.bleachernation.com/bears/
I wouldn't mind fangio with Kubiak as offensive coordinator. I have a feeling though, Elway is going to do what he has to do to get Harbaugh to come to Denver. Not sure how I feel about that.
ReplyDeleteHarbaugh and Kubes together makes sense. With the Ravens losing today that scenario is in play now. I could get down with that idea. Just don't give up too much to get Harbaugh from the Ravens.
DeleteYeah. They might even bring in Flacco. I actually would prefer having him next year over Keenum.
DeleteFrom what I read John was overruled on the Jackson pick. He was happy to keep rolling with Flacco but was pushed into Jackson. So getting John and Flacco with Kubes again would be an interesting pairing. Though I only think Flacco is a slight improvement over Case and his body is cooked. But I'd take any improvement at the QB position at this point.
DeleteI would assume that if we stick with case it will be a different contract and what he's under now.
DeleteI'd say so, change it to back up money. Cap hit is 21 mil. Dead cap is 10 mil. Save 11 mil cutting him.
DeleteBears out, so can hire Fangio at anytime now.
ReplyDeleteBy this time next week we might have a head coach
DeleteIf it is one of the dudes we interviewed we will know in the next couple days. Harbaugh is the only one that will take longer.
DeleteI have posted at length about trading Von Miller on facebook. Yes we would get a boatload of picks for him, which would help us immensely this coming season, but two problems i see with it. You are only going to get one more first rounder this year unless ypu trade with a team that has multiple first round picks. I doubt any of them would do it.
ReplyDeleteMy first issue is QB. Trading Von doesn’t get us a better QB. There aren’t any supposed really good ones coming out that I would say is worth going after and where we are drafting it would probably take at least two first rounders to move up to get him. Not worth it in my opinion.
Secondly and probably more important than no 1, is you have to hit on your draft picks. You can have all the draft picks in the world, but if you don’t hit on them, it matters nothing and you are actually worse off because you traded away a great player. Von is a known quantity. We know what we have in him. You have no idea what you are getting in a draft choice. Not to mention if you trade him, you weaken our one strength if you want to call it that. It also then moves double coverages over to Chubb, taking away some of his impact.
IMO, this is not a good idea.
I would say we will know in the next two days who our next head coach is going to be. I believe the rest of the interviewees interview tomorrow. Munchak hasn’t left Denver from what I am hearing, but I did see his daughter lives there or something like that. So it could be just an extended vacation or it could mean we told him to hang around.
ReplyDeleteFangio could be a good choice. He has been around a long time, but he could be very old school. Who knows. Not sure I would take a long look at the guy from the Rams. I think we would be getting another Joseph. One year in a meaningful role does not satisfy me in terms of their ability to manage a team or much less the flow of a game. Joseph wasn’t a bad football coach, just a bad head football coach. He may wventually be a good HC down the road, but he had too many on the job flubs for my liking.
In any event, I think we will know either Monday or Tuesday who our next coach will be.
I see there is some truth to Kubiak staying and possibly being our OC, as we have been blocking requests to interview him for OC positions.
I wouldn’t mind Harbaugh, although they are supposedly working on an extention. That may change now that they got bounced from the playoffs in ugly fashion today. But he is still under contract, so unless they fire him, we have to give something up to pry him away. Ozzie Newsome is retiring now that their season is done, so maybe whoever they have in line to take over will want to start over and they let him go. Not likely but just a thought.
ReplyDeleteIt seems more doable today than it did yesterday. Depends on what side of the fence Harbaugh sits with Jackson and if he wants to do that again. A fresh start may be what he wants.
DeleteI'd rank the coaches on what they have done in order of Harbaugh, Fangio and Munchak. Though no idea what type of HC Fangio would make.
Imo, the head coach should be someone with experience as a head coach. Kubiak as offensive coordinator and a top-notch defensive coordinator would be the best scenario. I know it would never happen, but Shanahan as HC, Kubiak as OC, and fangio as DC would be pretty awesome.
ReplyDeleteThat would be amazingly awesome, but ya, never gonna happen. The Bears probably wouldn’t even allow him to interview for a lateral and why would he? I guess we could throw head coach money at him and try to steal him.
DeleteI really like the fact that fangio knows the 3-4 and the value of a dominant NT in the 3-4.
ReplyDeleteIs that what he runs in Chicago? I never really took notice to it but I always assumed he was a 4-3 guy.
DeleteNot sure. I think he was a 3-4 guy st SF before going to the Bears. IDK.
DeleteYawn, someone wake me up when the Broncos hire one of these coaches. Wait, never mind, let me sleep.
ReplyDeleteLol, Can we wake you up if they hire a head coach AND a real QB?
DeleteRIP
DeleteSo according to what I read on keenum's contract, if we cut him we will owe the rest of his 25 million dollar guarantee for a cap hit of 10 million. However, we would save 11 million dollars. Obvious to everyone he is merely a backup. 20 touchdowns 16 interceptions.
DeleteHead, Hell yes.
ReplyDeleteDigger, Your Keenum contract numbers are accurate. We would save $10 million in cash and cap hit.
ReplyDeleteI think the Broncos GM will be too stubborn to cut him.
Depending on where you look and depending on how it is calculated, the Broncos rate from dead last to 3rd to last in salaries spent on the offense. No wonder we suck. What was the Broncos General Manager thinking?? What's his name again?
ReplyDeleteJohn Elway's first 100 overall games as an exec:
ReplyDelete71-29 record
2 Super Bowl appearances, 1 Super Bowl win
5 AFC West titles
Ever since ...
13-25 record
Zero playoff appearances
Most of his first 100 game record was with Manning (except for Tebow year). Everything after Manning has sucked.
During Elway’s eight seasons as an executive, he’s signed or extended the contracts of 17 players who have combined for 36 Pro Bowl selections as Broncos.
ReplyDeleteOnly five of those players are still on the roster.
Only one (Von Miller) was a Broncos draft pick.
Sounds like it is down to Fangio and Munchak. I am torn. I think Fangio would turn our defense back into the monster it should be with thr players we have. Munchak has taken Pittsburgh’s line and turned it into one of the league’s best in the five years he has been there. The problem I see with him having Kubiak as his OC would be that Munchak runs a more power style line and not the west coast style Kubiak’s offense would run. So there may be some issues there if those two would get paired together. I think I am leaning towards Munchak only because of trying to fix our offense of line. if we can fix that then I think Keenum maybe at least a serviceable quarterback for another year . he certainly isn’t going to be the gunslinger we all want him to be but he may be improved. I think he would be better under Kubiak regardless but fixing our offense of line is crucial no matter which way we go
ReplyDeleteFangio please and move on from Keenum.
ReplyDeleteWhat number pick are we we in the draft
ReplyDelete#10 - your guess was right.
DeleteI saw somewhere we are 11th now. not sure how accurate that is though
DeleteCool. Thanks.
DeleteThe way I see it the Ohio State quarterback will for sure be before #10. There also are 3 defensive end/ Edge rushers that will go before us. There are offensive tackles, cornerbacks, and defensive tackles worthy of the number 10 pick.
My question is should we trade up for the quarterback, stay put for one of our Three Needs at offensive tackle defensive tackle or cornerback, or trade down to get a couple more top 50 players?
YES, Digger's first trade down post of 2019, unless I missed one.
ReplyDeleteHaha. Nope. First one. I actually think we should trade up this year. #10 to #4. Get the QB if we like him. Desperate times. We have an exta 4th and 5th plus mabe a comp pick, IDK.
DeleteIf the cost to do that is too high for what that Ohio State quarterback is worth then I think we take best player available at number 10. There should be right tackles, cornerbacks and defensive tackles to choose from
DeleteI say right tackles because I don't think there will be a better left tackle than Bolles available at number 10.
DeleteDepends if you like Haskins or any other QB that much and assumes some other team does not jump in front of you before the 4th pick.
ReplyDeleteBut I like you're new thinking.
It also depends on if they make other moves before the draft. Personally I don't think there are very many options better than Keenum in free agency. If Gruden wants to get rid of Derek Carr I would love it if we would buy him. Maybe Foles. Maybe Flaco. Maybe Winston. IDK. I just know I don't want Keenum again next year.
DeleteMore than likely if Kubiak stays Keenum stays.
DeleteSome quick takes, OBF on salary disruption I believe it was 50ish mil to offense and 100+ plus on defense. that kind of money buys you championship calibre D, and it did we won a Superbowl off it. But our Oline has suffered mightily.
ReplyDeleteI can get down with either Fangio and Munchak, I like defense so I'd go Fangio over Munchak. Still holding out hope for some Harbaugh miracle.
Started watching some of Haskins game type, looks pretty good. Nothing jumps out as being completely bad but haven't seem anything that made me go wow. Also the fact he is a one year wonder scares me.
I watched Haskins quite a bit this season. Long story, but I’ve followed Buckeyes football since I was a boy.
ReplyDeleteOne thing he does that bothers me for when he gets to the pro level. If you watch his throws, especially short ones, he often throws sidearm between line men. He gets passes knocked down by D linemen more than occasionally. That seems to work for him in college, but it’s an adjustment he’ll need to make in the pros.
I’m also concerned about his very brief college career. He has talent for sure, but I really think he needs a “redshirt” year, or at least several games as the backup and then start easing him in. I’m afraid that throwing him to wolves would get him eaten.
I watched Haskins a lot too being a Buckeye fan. I love the kid, but also think he would have benefited from staying in college another year at least. I am sure he is coming out because it is a weak class and he has a chance to go higher, especially since Murray also has baseball to fall back on. Teams may shy away from Murray if he declares. So Haskins has a chance to be the first QB drafted. Makes sense from that angle, especially when you consider the kid from Clemson may bolt after next year, especially if they win the championship again next season. Haskins would surely fall behind him and possibly Tua from Alabama. I just wish he would stay another year and learn a little more. I like him and I think he is a very good pocket passer. He is a gamer and always played well in big games. He has some intangibles, but as you said he does tend to throw a little sidearm. guys are taller and bigger in the NFL so that may cause him some problems until he adjusts. But the kid is accurate and he can throw the deep ball very well. Would I take him? I think it depends on who else is sitting there ahead of us.
ReplyDeleteJacksonville is the only team I see drafting a QB this year. So we may have to jump ahead of them to get Haskins or Murray if he declares.
Maybe Giants as well.
DeleteI thought about them too, but I don’t think they will reach for one though. If they didn’t take one in a deep QB class this past year, I don’t think they will take a bigger gamble on one this coming draft.
DeleteI think the Giants definitely could go QB. Also, Brad, the kid from Clemson, as you call him, cannot enter the draft until 2021.
DeleteI just saw a report that Joe Ellis skipped the interview with Fangio. That seems pretty shitty, but would indicate we are leaning more toward Munchak.
ReplyDeleteEllis did say at the start of the end of season press conference that it was John's decision and call on the next HC but we will see.
DeleteI'm not a huge fan of Munchak as an HC, hell of an OL coach but as a HC...
I agree that I would like him out, and I know Ellis stated it was all Elway’s decision, but why go to some and not all HC interviews? I’m sure there was an entire Broncos contingent at each interview. You would think he would be there representing not only the team but the ownership as well.
DeleteEllis seems to be getting more and more slimy.
DeleteCertainly an organization mess with the Broncos that will hurt the team for the foreseeable future
DeleteSorry Gould on your comments about positional spending. You could not be more wrong. Yes, we won a Super Bowl with due to a great defense but that it not the way our salary structure was designed back then.
ReplyDeletePer Spotrac, our ranking for amount spent on offense in 2018 was 30th out of 32. In 2015, when we won the Super Bowl, it was 2nd.
Our ranking for defensive spending in 2018 was 7th and in 2015 it was 14th.
So, I will again state that the GM along with sucky drafting has also completely mismanaged the salary apportionment.
Just the facts.

ReplyDeleteHaha, to snarky.
DeleteJust received a notification that Vic Fangio is our new head coach on a four year deal.
ReplyDeleteThis likely means Kubiak will be moving back onto the sidelines as our OC.
DeleteI would suspect Rick dennison will be possibly returning for a third stint.
Cleveland just fired Greg Williams after they hired Kinchens as their HC. I wonder who Fangio will bring in as our DC. Maybe it would be someone like Williams. Not sure how the two differ on their philosophy.
Sounds like Fangio is running the defense and Schefter is reporting Kubiak will in fact be the OC.
DeleteI'm buying my Super Bowl tickets now.
DeleteOBF I thought they had to be two years removed from high school, which would make him eligible after next season.
ReplyDeleteNo Brad, three years.
DeleteNo Brad, three years which would be 2021.
DeleteMaybe some chicago defensive players will resurface here. I am sure he was well liked by the defense.
ReplyDeleteNo Brad, 3 years which would make it 2021.
