Broncos vs Texans

94 comments:

  1. Great comments about the status of this team on the old KC post.

Rumors are swirling that Harbaugh may be out. How would everyone feel about him? He isn’t a bad coach. Not a flashy, risky coach. I think he may have been like Kubiak, a product of a great defense with an offense that did just enough to make it work. Now that guys like Lewis have retired and T Sizzle are on the decline, they have been average at best. Maybe he could bring that here.

We are wasting incredible talent on defense. Yes we have a hole in the secondary, but our fromt 7 are pretty good.

Offensively, this team has great talent. Oline is still not an asset, but is improved some. QB is a major issue. Case was much better last year because he had the best line in the league to sit behind while scratching his head. I loved the Chubb pick and have a hard time arguing against it, but when you have a chance to get a franchise QB you take that chance and go get one. I wanted Darnold and I wish we would have gotten him. Elway needs to grow a pair when it comes to moving up in the draft.

I do love thisbyear’s draft class, and agree that we probably wouldn’t have most of these guys had we moved to get a QB. So there is something to be said for that. But we have struggled to find a QB for almost 20 years since Elway retired. We need to find a guy that can be here and play at a high level for 10-15 years. I am tired of the journeyman gap filler. There is no gap if you have no end in sight. It’s called a void or major hole at that point.

Some of Elway’s player decisions have been questionable in terms of letting them go, but almost all have worked out in our favor. Ward was a key cog on our defense but he became a meat head and got cut. Julius Thomas didn’t do anything in his two stops. Talib got huer and is out for the season. Tebow was Tebow. He knows how to squeeze as much out of players and when to cut ties. Kudos to him for that. But he has to do better in finding players and coaches to develope the players we draft. Even when Shanahan was here we were one of the worst teams at keeping draft picks. We haven’t drafted well in twenty years. We got lucky to have a few select draft classes like our 2018 draft that have helped keep us relevant.

It is time to grow a pair Elway, and do what you told Tebwo to do leading up to the Pittsburgh playoff game. Just oull the damn trigger.

  2. I saw a facebook rumor that Shanahan is dusting off his resume and could be a candidate to replace VanJina. Not sure I would like that. I think the game has passed Mike by, just like it has Gruden. Gruden has made Oakland a hot mess. Just two years ago they looked to be a major force in this league. Carr has been reduced to an average QB and a head case on the sidelines. Wonder if we could trade for him. I like him. Just a thought.

  3. trading DTE was probably a smart move from the standpoint that it gives us additional cap space and certainly is a guy who was clearly in decline which will allow one of our young stars to break out of that shadow and get the playing time he needs.

    OBF,

it was good to hear from you. I think I speak for all of us when I say we miss your valued input.

  4. Game starting soon, wish I could get excited... that sucks half way through the season... oh well, Yippee Broncos.

    ReplyDelete
  5. 7-0 Texans and yes, DT played a part, 2 catches for about 50 yds.

    ReplyDelete
  6. 3&out for Broncos.. head-Case tosses a tipped pass on 3rd and about 8... even Lindsay looked impotent on 2 carries. Muskgrave digging deep for creativity - empty.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Has anyone noticed that head-Case looks like he has no neck when he's suited up? Ya, his head looks like it's attached directly to his shoulders... wonder it that affects his passing?

    ReplyDelete
  8. 7-3 TX, Denver gets 3 from McMoney but they still look impotent.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Joseph with another pointless challenge

    ReplyDelete
  10. Looks like DT found his hands when he packed for Houston.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Texs OL making Den's D look weak... either that or their OL is just really strong.

    ReplyDelete
  12. wow we made a defensive stand. they went for it on 4th and 2 and we tackled for a loss.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Wow, Broncs stop them on 4th & 1.... How?

    ReplyDelete
  14. go figure. we get a big stop and start off with a penalty.

    ReplyDelete
  15. and Booker fumbles to give them the ball back.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Can we please fire VanGina after this game please?

    ReplyDelete
  17. 13-3 TX, we want to show of our sucking.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Simmons has had a shit year, he blows coverages routinely.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Wad-man makes another pizza delivery kick - hold the slice on that pie!

    ReplyDelete
  20. a couple big plays on offense. a turnover coming up soon

    ReplyDelete
  21. why the hell would you take the 5 yard penalty for offsides when you got 9 on the play?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Booker makes up for the fumble. TD 13-10 TX.

    ReplyDelete
  23. our offense is by far better than last year. but still struggling

    ReplyDelete
  24. looks like the defense finally started to play

    ReplyDelete
  25. Bill OBrien will be gone after this season as well

    ReplyDelete
  26. nice play followed by a penalty. lets do something here

    ReplyDelete
  27. why burn a TO after an incomplete pass

    ReplyDelete
  28. I don't think VJina could get his own name right today. What a comedy of errors.

    ReplyDelete
  29. what thr hell happened? We were driving with under a minute left and i eat a bowl of soup and i see we gave up a FG.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Paradis carted off the field. Guessing he is done for the season.

    ReplyDelete
  31. a 3 and out to start the second half. always a nice way to start

    ReplyDelete
  32. That was a pretty dang good throw there

    ReplyDelete
  33. That’s the best pass by case all year. Let’s hope it’s the start of something.

    ReplyDelete
  34. glad we held them to 3. we need a TD here now.

    ReplyDelete
  35. what a great time to give up our first sack of the day

    ReplyDelete
  36. driving for a potential winning FG

    ReplyDelete
  37. well wishful thinking that we would make a game winning fg

    ReplyDelete
  38. Hopefully McAnus helps pack their bags

    ReplyDelete
  39. Damn, thisclose to winning that game, we are better than our record but still middle of the pack.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Silver lining, we are 3-6 going into the bye week, time for Vance to go.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I think he's gone. Coaching was to blame for this loss.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Musgrave would have to be the coach then. Woods would be like when McDaniels was fired and Studesville took over

    ReplyDelete
  43. Paradis broke his fibula, he's done for the season.

    ReplyDelete
  44. yeah anytime you get carted off the field its never a good situation

    ReplyDelete
  45. Elway announced today that we are staying with VJ, so we got that going for us after the off week.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Are we in the "suck for Luck" derby now? Who ya got for the top QB in the draft next spring? Herbert from Oregon?

What REALLY SUCKS is that I'm even thinking about that right now.

    ReplyDelete
  47. McKenzie got signed by the Bills. Thank you Buffalo.

    1. Yaaaaaaaaaaaay, the addiction has been broken!

  48. Evidently, the DT/Bronco breakup wasn't as cordial as portrayed. DT sound very hurt, betrayed and bitter, railing against Elway, VJina and the whole trade thing. Maybe the locker room isn't as hunky dory as what's being portrayed to media and fans?

    1. For the players to vote him a captain, and the coaching staff to select someone else is bush league. That's inexcusable

      Delete
    2. Sounds like the implosion is happening. And now we have the off week for it to fester. Gonna be a long rest of the season, I'm afraid.

      Delete
    3. Sounds to me like the moving of DT has been a planned for a long time.

We know Vance is good at coach speak and not much else.

      Delete
  49. Well, any player is usually bitter when they get traded. A classy player shrugs it off and moves on, especially when they get traded to a better team.

DT hasn’t shown up for the past two years on the field. As someone pointed out, he has been second in drops the past two seasons I think.

Not to mention, when the team is firlding calls for a player, it doesn’t make sense for the team to sit there and tell that player everything that is going on. The player’s job is to perform on the field. I don’t know what all they told him, but he can’t control that. So play out on the firld and shut up.

    1. and for some reason I can’t spell field properly.

  50. Well on the upside fellas, we can’t lose today.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I think Elway’s biggest problem is that he is constantly in win now mode. And that our defense is strong enough to carry an average offense. Problem is, our defense hasn’t played well enough, primarily because of bad coaching, and a weaker secondary.

So I think he felt like get a marginally decent QB who can move the ball instead of drafting one and spending draft capital to go get a franchise guy. But when you have struggled at the position for a long time, you have to pull the trigger when you have a shot at one. This past draft, we had that shot. There were a few there for the taking. Yes it would have cost us a few picks to make it happen, but thats where you fill in with decent free agents to bridge the gap.

Now we are in a position to either ride with Case another season or let him go and eat some dead cap hit, while searching for another journeyman free agent who will be no better or overdraft by taking gambles again like he has done with Lynch and Os.

    1. We won't release Case> we will still need a mentor to groom any QB we may draft. Some have us going after Eli, but I hate that idea. He was never as good as his brother and he sure as hell hasn't helped the Giants, especially the past 2-3 seasons. Dead end there, may as well keep Kareenum (OH HELL NO!). I think the only answer left is to sober up Elway, find a suit big enough for his belly and a helmet big enough for his head, throw him behind center and buy lots of popcorn. We'll just have to wait and see where we land in the draft a how the QB prospects shake out. Maybe one will move up into our striking distance when the draft heats up.

  52. Pretty darn sure he was planning on getting a quarterback to learn behind Case. When Chubb was there, he went with BPA. Can't really complain about that, that is what we ask for every year. We are right where a lot of people predicted us to be. Third best in the AFC West. Just out of the playoff hunt. I know it's disappointing, but we're still have a lot of good football ahead of us this year. DT leaving is a good thing. Sutton is way better. We get Freeman back. Coaching sucks and the o-line is going to be even worse without Paradis. Chubb starting to really turn it on. I'm not overly optimistic anymore, but I do think that with better coaching we could still be pretty good next year. Especially if we get Leary, Paradise and a first-round draft pick for the offensive line.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Digger, everything that I heard and read did not have Elway interested in a QB after Darnold was gone. If Chubb was not there he was going to trade back to Buffalo but was only going to get one of their 1st round picks.

I wish we could have traded up, but the Jets out manuevered Elway. Given that Chubb fell to 5, you had to take him and I am glad that we did. What disappointed me was that we did not trade back up in the late 1st round and draft Lamar Jackson, like the Ravens traded up for him.

I never trusted Kelly like i said on here. I was really hoping that i would be wrong on him.

In terms of next year, it is a weak QB class, but 2020 has the Alabama and Clemson QBs. I like them both.

I am afraid we are going to be sniffing KC ass for awhile.

Time for Elway to step up his game.

    ReplyDelete
  54. If we move on from Case I'd look at Flacco as a stop gap.

We wanted Baker or Darnold but missed out, loading up on the defense is probably a good idea if we going to target a QB and being competitive in 2020.

CJ Anderson got cut from the Panthers. Seems he was overweight and under performing.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Kansas City does look like the real deal. I think you're right.

    ReplyDelete
  56. We moved our son to Denver Monday and drove back yesterday. Couldn't help but notice the very few people wearing Broncos garb while we were in Denver. Can't help but wonder if this year and last has caused the enthusiasm to wane quite a bit. It was noticeably different than the last time I was there during the season.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Anyone else know the Chargers are 7-2? I was surprised. There schedule has been easier than ours so it will be an interesting comparison between teams.

    ReplyDelete
  58. So there's talk that if (may be likely) Harbaugh is fired from Balt that the Broncos should go hard for him. He has a .580 win % in 11 years with the Ravens but he is a defensive minded coach. I'd be for it with the right OC, someone who can take CK and whichever young QB we draft and make our offense respectable again. Any ideas out there?

    1. But then again, after checking our team rankings, maybe we need a better DC? Rankings;
      O = 11th, D = 21st... I didn't realize our D had slipped that much.

  59. Garcia injured in practice and done for the season.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Why can’t we have an offensive line!! Elway needs to sacrifice a cat or goat or something. This is resiculous.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Sacrificing O-linemen hasn't worked so ya, I'm all in on a cat or goat... maybe start with a chicken and work our way up to VJina?

Being optimistic, maybe some of our younger guys on OL steps up big? I'll wait until the laughing subsides before I add "Ya never know".

      Delete
    2. No laughing here. The younger guys can't be much worse.

      Delete
  61. Shout out to Bolles, only dude that hasn’t missed time.

    ReplyDelete
  62. But he sure has "missed" a number pass rushers! And blocks.

But ya, kudos for being able to show up for work everyday.

    ReplyDelete
  63. 7 games left. Possibility of still being 10-6. OL in shambles. Very poor coaching to this point. 3-13 sounds more obtainable. Going to be a rough road I'm afraid.
Side note, thanks for putting up this year's schedule Brad.

    ReplyDelete
  64. NFL.com has a story speculating Kubes may consider taking a job as the Broncos OC. Hmmm, tie that into the talk of bringing in Harbaugh as HC and it all fits. Get a good DC and ST coach and we could see a huge coaching improvement.
Think I'll start a new game-day post and add this one.
