    1. Good comparison of how they were viewed by some compared to where we picked them. Some reaches. Some were fine. Langley was probably the biggest reach for his ultimate potential.

  3. Josh and Banderas doesn't go very wel together. Lol. Just seems kind of strange.

      It is really Jose'. Haha

    2. That was HS. Not me! Lol. I just spelled well wrong. Hahaha

  4. That's an interesting number you have behind each one, Digger. It sure would be interesting to know where Denver had each one rated, although they probably don't even use that type of ranking system.

    1. Probably not.
I don't know which big boards the guy combined together. If I had found it before we did ours it would've saved us a lot of work. Oh well, it passed time until the draft.

  5. ESPN had a rank the draft show on tonight. I think they gave us a B+.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I liked CMac a lot, but I also like Henderson a lot. He is a RB turned slot WR. That is what expected out of McCaffery anyway.

  7. Looking back at it, I had said that I thought possibly Tenn stole our TE Jonno Smith. The reason I thought this is that's the type TE we were looking at and he was the last one left. Well it could easy be because next we overstaffed Langley. I like Langley but just feel he was just a hurry up pick. Maybe not. IDK. Anyway we obviously didn't think of Butt until after the trade down with Cleveland because Detroit took a TE right after Cleveland used our pick. Luckily they passed over the injured Butt from their home state and left him to fall to us. That gained us McKinley I think. Sometimes better to be lucky than good.

    1. BTW that is Butt's second operation on that same knee.

  8. I really like the overall draft. 1st pick was to fill our biggest need and we were faced with the weakest OT class, maybe ever. So we took the one that we felt was the best. Supposedly Seattle also really liked Bolles and if we trade down, we likely lose him. The top 3 tackles would be gone before we drafted again, so our hands were tied and we did the only thing that made sense. I'm always ok if the pick makes sense. Hopefully he becomes a really good player very quickly. I am concerned that he only weighs 297.

After that I was excited about every pick. Got some speed and open field running ability which has been sorely lacking. Butts is a great value in the 5th.

I share some concern about ILB. Curious that we did not address this.

Overall, pretty excited. Can't wait for training camp to get a look in person. Will try to get to more practices this year just because of the draft.

    1. Coolest part is we gained a 4th rounder for next year and KC gave their 1st rounder up to get Mahomes.

  9. The Denver Broncos are scheduled to host veteran running back Jamaal Charles on a free-agent visit Tuesday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports, citing sources.

    1. I'm all for this if his physical checks out and he signs for a reasonable amount. Adrian Peterson signed for $7M over 2 years with $3.5 guaranteed. I could go for that if he checks out.

      Delete
    2. Schefter says the Broncos are enthused.

      Delete
    3. Bet he would be fired up to play against the Chiefs

      Delete
  10. Some experienced depth at RB sure seems like a good idea given the relative health of our running backs the past several years. Suppose Elway is waiting for late seasons cuts to pick up an ILB that some team just didn't have room for? He picked up several UDFA linebackers too. Hopefully Davis turns into a star with some better D linemen in front of him (better D linemen sure is an assumption!).

  11. Looking at the UDFA's last night, I was surprised to not see any RB's. Maybe that had something to do with Jamaal Charles

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Thanks for pointing that out, it hadn't registered with me yet. They might have known they were going to bring Charles in, but it seems they would have signed at least one in case Charles didn't sign. They could always release the UDFA and sign a different one if Charles did sign. So ya, that's a bit odd.

      Delete
  12. I'd love to get Charles. I mentioned it at the start of FA I was surprised we weren't going after any vet backs. But now after the draft I guess it makes more sense. Charles if healthy could really add something to the team. That would be a good signing.

    ReplyDelete
  13. So Marshawn Lynch is a Raider, Adrian Peterson is a Saint and Jaamal Charles could be a Bronco.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Musical chairs. Wonder what any of them have left in the tank. Kind of seems like Lynch probably has the most left. Guess we'll see as the year goes on, assuming someone picks up Charles.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Per Channel 9 in Denver

KUSA—Jamaal Charles is a Denver Bronco.

The former star running back of the AFC West Division rival Kansas City Chiefs reached a one-year, $900,000 contract agreement with the Broncos on Tuesday. Charles also has an additional $100,000 workout bonus and can make up up to $3.75 million if he hits game-day, 46-roster bonus thresholds and incentives.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Signing Jaamal should give a kick in the ass to FLCJ.

    ReplyDelete
  17. This is definitely a low risk, very high reward signing if he can stay healthy. Got a pretty decent RB in the draft with a big upside and now have Charles to push CJ and Co.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Mil base salary for Jamaal Charles. I will take that. Very low risk high reward. Now get healthy and tear the Chiefs a new one.

    ReplyDelete
  19. OK rotation depth, I guess. Doesn't seem like he moved the needle in a positive direction much last year. We really need for Gotsis to up his game, considerably!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Gotsis has a long way to go before he ever plays well. Probably a stupid pick and bust. We all knew that at the time.

      Delete
    2. I thought the comments Elway and Vance made on Gotsis were interesting. That he was recovering from his ACL and wasn't actual able to do much last year. So have to see if he has a big offseason and jump, much like Wolfe did from year one to two.

      Delete
  20. Like the Winn pick up, he was good in the preseason and ok during the year.

See Forrset retired, guess he knew he wouldn't be back with us signing Charles.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Another thing I thought was interesting from Elway's draft presser is this was the first year they used Analytics to help with selections. I would have thought we were doing this for at least a few years but I guess we still a bit old school.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That struck me as a bit odd too. You'd think every team would be taking advantage of any opportunity for more information before the draft. Even if analytics for football is in its infancy (compared to baseball at least) any chance at a competitive advantage sould be useful.

  22. I would say that it is helping Cleveland in their draft process the past few years. I know Brad took a shot at them, but they have outdrafted the Broncos in the last two years. Sure they started with the top 1 or 2 picks, but they have leveraged that into a lot of top picks and that will carry into next year. They also were willing to buy a 2nd round pick in the Os deal, and instead of criticizing them for that, I would give them some credit.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I agree with this, Browns have been drafting better, just their coaching staff is average and gets nothing out of their players.

Manizel probably the dumbest pick in that timeframe though.

      Delete
    2. I think I question the Browns' decision to release Os the most. They really don't have a QB, so why not give him a shot? What do they have to lose?

I knew they would use a lot of statistcal analysis when they got DePodesta. Before he left the Mets, they were very big on using statistcal analysis in everything they did. I think he comes from the Billy Bean GM mold, who was very high on that. I don't know how much that translates to the NFL, but I am sure GM's will make it work somehow.

The Browns don't deserve too much credit though until they can parlay their successful drafts into a winning product and hold on to their draftees. They can't make a decision on what defense they want to run and it has resulted in a lot of wasted picks over the past few years. Having a revolving door at the head coaching position and front office doesn't help either. Time will tell if they can turn it around.

  25. OMG, Cutler as an analyst? He should be really good at analyzing interceptions in the Red Zone.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Kind of like Romo. Isn't he becoming an analyst too? Maybe they can have Romo and Cutler go head to head like Sharpe and Bayless. That would be interesting. "No, I would try and thread the needle here, and this guy would step in unseen by me and take it 98 yards the other way."

      Delete
    2. To continue Brad's comment "then I'd go set on the end of the bench with a towel over my face and pout."

      Delete
    3. Think Cutler would pout throughout the entire broadcast?

      Delete
    4. Pair him with Sims and we'd probably find out!

      Delete
    5. Cutler would take himself out of the rest of the broadcast because he banged his knee on the desk.

      Delete
    6. In some respects I do feel bad for Cutler. His offensive line was absolutely terrible the entire time he was in chicago. They always tried to fix it, but always made a mess of it. He always had guys to throw to but never had the time to sit back and pass like he did in denver. I think he would have been much better with a much better line.

Langley going to wear 27, CB that wears 27 better be good.

Kelly also picked 6 and as the article shows that may be a poor decision.

  31. Bolts released Orlando Franklin. Elway looks like a genius with some of these guys that we don't retain like Franklin, Os, Julius Thomas. They go on to big money contracts and fizzle out. I am wondering though if Julius Thomas has a big year in Miami though with Gase. He knows how to use him, whereas Jacksonville didn't.

    1. You mentioned a while back about all our Cs and how the writing was on the wall for him. At 6'2 285 he is not an NFL caliber C. However, he is a coaches kid and I believe is rather smart. Could be a coaching candidate in the future.

  34. Yup, Ferentz is a bigger Kubiak, not bad, just not good enough to be the starter. Centers are a weird breed, they need upper body strength, strong but shorter legs (to keep from tripping or stepping on the QB) and most of all, they have to be smart since they're the one calling the O-line play for the QB most of the time (unless yer PFM and want to control every detail.) Ya, the QB calls the protection but the C tells the guys how/where to line up, they're gap cover and where the first option play is going to attack at the line. Paradis has all of that - taht's why he's rated so high. You don't need to be a 6'7"-350# flesh eater, in fact, the tall hulks just impede passing lanes and and the QB's view of the defensive alignment, not to mention that the man eaters are slower. (Sorry, too many errors in the first post... had to junk it).

  36. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000810055/article/vance-joseph-insists-broncos-team-isnt-brokenV

So many people feel last year was the start of our demise. Manning retired and his replacement left for more money leaving us high and dry. Haters, well anti or pessimistic Bronco fans, decided we were in re-build mode. Finishing 9-7 was actually very fortunate. Barely missing the playoffs was not. It gave all the doubters reason to believe they were right. Good to see our new coach setting the record straight.

    ReplyDelete
  37. However, getting back to winning division games is a must. 2-4 in the AFC West is what was our demise. Unacceptable.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Final domino has fallen. All draft picks are signed, sealed and delivered. Part of the issue with He derson's contract was that he didn't finish school until May 20th, which means he couldn't be with the team until then. No matter. He is under contract now.

Looking forward to seeing what these guys can do. I like the potential of Butts and Derby together on the field along with DT and Sanders and maybe Henderson. Empty backfield obviously, but would really open up the offense..

    ReplyDelete
  39. Broncos have opened extension talks with TJ Ward. He says he wants to retire a Bronco. I hope we do resign him. He was a hell of a signing and has been great in the socondary.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Love to keep Ward, brings a strong presence to our secondary.

      Delete
    2. I agree. One of Elway's best signings.

      Delete
    3. I like Ward fine. He has a few questionable moments where he gets penalties or cheap shots. To sign him for to big of an extension would kind of be dumb though IMO. Parks and Simmons seem alright. I assume they both had a 4 year deal and could be re-upped before 2020. A two year deal for Ward works.

      Delete
    4. Another 3-4 years would be find. That gets him into his 30s and allows the others to grow behind him.

Also we do already bring Simmons on the field a lot and have three safeties so I think it is worth keeping him

      Delete
  40. 2017 schedule up there would be cool if you get a chance.

I think we can be pretty good this year. I'm not thrilled with the week 5 bye, but we have a very real chance of being 7-0 and 4-0 in the AFC West. After that I start getting worried. Got more away games, injuries will start mounting and NE game messing with our heads.
STs should be much better and the Kubiak/Dennison play calling is gone though. Once we hit the NE game it could go either way, fall apart or come together as a title contender.
