Broncos at Texans

49 comments:

  1. Keenum is ruled out, Matt Schaub will start for the Texans. Ben Tate was placed on IR today, so Dennis Johnson will start at RB for them. They really have nothing on offense right now. I think their starting TE is out as well. We should be able to handle them with our defense.

  2. From previous post, don't like 'Bama players.

  3. Except Schaub is going to have a lot to prove and will be trying to win his starting job back. Hard to believe they'll just roll over on us. I sure hope we come out prepared and play some solid hard nosed football. They better have a plan for blocking JJ Watt or Mannings season is over.

I sincerely hope this is the week we start putting it back together to get on a run for the SB.

  4. HS,

I think Schaub is way past that. He is just trying to stay alive in Houston at this point. He got his chance back in the game a few weeks ago and he came in and threw a pick near the end of the game when they were trying to come back.

  5. Schaub and D Johnson sounds like just what our D needs, even if it is away. Between them and Oakland's JV team scheduled as our last two games we should have two more wins rather easily. I know, any given week and all that, but seriously c'mon man. They both should be great weather and Manning will be gunning for some records, including two more TDs to Decker for 5 guys with 10 TDs. If he throws for about 400 yards, 3 TDs, he may sit the 2 half of the Raider game after he breaks the TD record if it's well in hand. I'm thinking the yardage record is not going to be a priority. I would like Brock to get a little action anyway. Are we ready for the playoffs with two easy games in good conditions and Manning having a bunch of rest for everyone to be talking about how he doesn't do well coming off a bye, bad weather and the playoffs in general? Hell ya we are! We got this thing. To the SB anyway, IDK if we win it or not. I can say that, because I have no effect on it.

  6. My prediction for AFC playoffs;
    KC@Balt.
    SD@Indy
    Indy@Denver
    KC@NE
    KC@Denver
    Denver vs.???? in the SB
Can anyone go into Sea and win from the NFC?
    I'm going to say no.
    Den vs. Sea @ NY

  7. Champ Bailey (foot) is practicing in full this week.

Andre Caldwell is tentatively expected to be the Broncos third receiver again Sunday.

  8. Digger,

So you think Baltimore wins their division and the Bengals don't make the playoffs, and SD gets in? Interesting. SD is a very big long shot to make the playoffs. They need to win out and get a TON of help. If Cincy wins one game, and Baltimore wins out, I think SD will be eliminated because both Cincy and Baltimore will be 10-6. Either we or KC have the one wild card locked up already. It would be a miracle if SD ends up in the playoffs. Now that I look at it, if Cincy wins this week, SD is eliminated because they hold the head to head tie breaker over SD. So even if SD wins out and Cincy wins this week and loses to Baltimore, Baltimore would win the division and Cincy would get the other wild card unless Miami wins out, in which case they would go over Cincy. Miami also beat SD, so they are a long shot.

  9. Sorry that was so choppy. Was just looking at various scenarios and commenting.

  10. Thanks for the help on that Brad. Miami has the Bills and the Jets. They could easily win out. Replace SD with Miami then. My bad on that this morning I had SD at 10-6 with the other 3 and didn't get far enough into tie breakers. Yeah I do think Balt will still win the division. 1st they have to beat NE though.

    ReplyDelete
  11. No problem. I saw this morning on NFL network that if Miami wins this weekend and both Baltimore and Cincy lose, Miami is in.

    ReplyDelete
  12. That game for NE and Baltimore will be HUGE. If NE loses and they some how lose to Buffalo the last week, they could be eliminated if the Dolphins win out. But I think they make the playoffs with a win or a Dolphins loss because they will win the division.

  13. Seems we will hold Wes out till the playoffs. I hope he gets right.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I think we should Gould. Probably Wolfe too. We need those guys for the long haul. If they sit, and we win, they will have another two weeks after this week to get ready for the SB run.

    ReplyDelete
  15. It would be good for all three of them to play some snaps of the last game just to knock the rust off a bit. Hope Champ is back for good and fully healed for the playoff run. We are going to need all three of them at the top of their game.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I was thinking 3? Where did he get 3. Then I see you are including Champ. Champ says he's ready and will play tomorrow I think. It's going to be a matter of playing through the pain I think for him. It's a Lisfranc, even though they were very late in admitting that it is. It's not a matter of him getting better with more rest I don't think. Wolfe and Welker need to be held out until playoffs, I agree. So.... once Wolfe comes back, do you think we can stop the run again?

  17. Miller out. I hope this is a precaution

    ReplyDelete
  18. Miller seems to be fragile this year. Maybe he can't carry the extra weight he put on while bulking up.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Just logging on - Miller out, haven't seen Champ, and it looks like we are playing real tight. Come on Peyton, whip some life into this team!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Manning hasn't looked good since the first quarter

    ReplyDelete
  21. Still doesn't. Seems like because NO ONE is blocking! So here's a thought, how about running the ball??

    ReplyDelete
  22. All right! Maybe that defensive stand will change the mo.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Peyton can't read minds today. He isn't knowing where the holes are presnap like he usually does.

    ReplyDelete
  24. That was better, but still didn't seem easy. come on "D"

    ReplyDelete
  25. Time to set Holiday for the season....

    ReplyDelete
  26. All is well that ends well, I guess. Sure din't feel like a blow out there for a while, but Peyton ended up having a pretty good day. Defense looked better, but still not sharp.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The compost is reporting that "sources" say they fear a significant knee injury to Miller :'(

    ReplyDelete
  28. Reports are now surfacing he has a torn ACL. If that is the case, he'll miss part of next season as well. That is a huge blow to our defense, but if Wolfe and other guys can get healthy, it won't be as big of an impact. He'll be missed for sure though.

  29. Manning is now only 265 yards short of tying Brees' single season passing yardage record of 5,476. He broke Brady's record today with 4 TD's and now has next week to add to his record. Decker got his 2 TD's today, so we now have 5 guys with 10 or more TD's this season. We are only 17 points shy of tying NE's single season points record from 2007 of 589 points. If we score 28 points against Oakland, we will hit 600 points. Nice round number. Let's shoot for 4 TD's, all passes from Manning. Some nice records offensively.

I haven't been able to find the record for most total yards gained on offense in a single season, but I have to think we are getting pretty damn close. We were at 6,348 yards coming into today's game and gained 511 for a total of 6,859. Has there been a team with over 7,000 yards? I am interested to hear of such a record.

    ReplyDelete
  30. By the way, this is the first time we've ever won the division 3 straight years. Chiefs got bombed!

    ReplyDelete
  31. A few thoughts...

A win is a win but our play calling has been terrible. I think this was the 3rd straight game where Manning threw 50 passes. There were series where all we did was pass and if we failed to complete a pass it set us back. We would go incomplete, incomplete and then be facing 3 and 10. So why the hate on the run? I don't understand it. Every time we hand it off we made really good yardage (we were averaging like 8 yards a carry!). That whole 3rd quarter was pretty much pass until towards the end where we started mixing in the run. Low and behold we got some points. I just don't get it, we are not playing solid sound football. The reason I believe is we are chasing records which I worry will come back to bite us.

On Champ, he played a ton of snaps. The reason you didn't hear his name was because they didn't go after him. He had great coverage all day.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Also worried about Von. I don't think it is an ACL tear because he walked off, but a strain is very possible, which is a few months recovery :(

    ReplyDelete
  33. With Von out, it's time for Woodyard to step back up. Hopefully the rest has done him good and he'll come back strong. He is still listed as #1 n the depth chart, so I wonder if they have just been letting him see light action to get him ready for the playoffs. Great to see Champ work some of the rust off today,he actually looked good the times I noticed him out there.

Gould - some of the comments on Broncos.com quote players as saying they were going for the record in the second half. No doubt that is what limited the running plays. I don't think it's any coincidence that when they went back to running some, they started hitting the long passes and set the record. Of course it also didn't hurt that one of Houston's corners went out with an injury.

    ReplyDelete
  34. It is still possible to walk off with a torn ACL. I've seen it a few times. It also could be just a partial tear and not a complete tear. Regardless, he probably won't play in the playoffs unless we make the SB. Even that might be a stretch.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Anyone else thinking the Panthers could march all the way to the SB? I've been keeping an eye on them all season and have been thinking in the back of my mind they could really do some damage. They are a team that many people seem to overlook, but they have a nasty defense and they can score. Seattle seems vulnerable the past few weeks and so do the 9ers. I wouldn't want to face them if I was a team in the NFC. They could still end up with home field. They will probably get at least a bye.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I don't trust Cam to not try to do too much yet. I think he is on his way, just not at the destination at this point.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I'm thinking the same thing with the Eagles if they sneak in. They are some dangerous teams out there.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Miller has ACL tear, done for year :(

    ReplyDelete
  39. I was just over on Broncos.com reading about that. Sounds like Irving is next man up. A little surprised that they didn't move Woodyard back outside, but I guess he hasn't played out there all year and Irving must be practicing at that position.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Irving played the first 6 games in Von's spot, so he should be good to go. Hopefully they can cover enough for him.

    ReplyDelete
  41. And a very Merry Christmas to all of my Bronco blogging buddies!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Merry Christmas Head. Oh and all you other guys too.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Merry Christmas all, though it was yesterday for me :P

  44. Wolfe returned to practice this week and was sent home with the flu. I'm glad he is back practicing, even though he won't play this week, it bodes well for our first playoff game. He will be needed badly. I suspect Mincey will play DE most of the time with Phillips moving to LB at times in place of Miller.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Looks like we signed Brandon Marshall, the LB.

    ReplyDelete
  46. This Brandon Marshall seems like he will give us way less headaches than the last one did.
Von out, newly acquired Mincey projected for part of the replacement plan.
Champ playing the slot with his bum foot, just like I envisioned for him to do. Getting pointers from Harris. The teacher becomes the student. To funny.
5 Pro Bowl starters is all, but understandable, with Clady , Champ, Von and Wolfe out for a lot of time. 1 is the effing kicker so that don't count. JK :) Peyton, Demaryius, Julius, Louis & Matt - I can't believe DRC is not a starter. Did you read where he said he might retire if we win the SB?
Hope to talk with some of you tomorrow during the record breaking, #1 seed winning, demolition of the most hated of all teams in their house. Oh man it's fun when we have Manning and they suck so bad. Stealing Dennis Allen?! I mean really, how did that work out, little Al? We shall whip them right into firing him and looking for another new HC. Chip off the old block.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I hope to be on tomorrow, Digger. The game is being shown here in the Dallas area, so I'll even get to watch it.
